So over to you chaps. Have any of you found that a particular tyre offers better protection from kerbing than others for RS4s?

Damaged rim
I had the rims on my RS4 refurbished in March not long after I bought the car, and the company did a really good job of them too. So I've been even more vigilant when parking near kerbs (usually leaving me with a short walk to the pavement
). But it didn't of course last, and this morning I managed to catch the o/s front rim on a nice bit of concrete when parking at a friend's house
Only about 2-3" of damage but enough to really hack me off. The 'shoulder' on the tyre that's supposed to reduce the chance of this happening didn't do its job really, so it got me wondering whether they're better on other makes. Mine are Pirelli PZeros which I wouldn't have again in any case.

Re: Damaged rim
You could move to 275s for more rim protection *snigger*. I think GY F1s have rim protection as do Vreds Sultanas , however, it's a false economy as I find you'll end up cutting the sidewall if your life-partner does make contact with something. Don't forget to book in a 4WA done after your brush with the curb.
No matter where you go, there you are.
Re: Damaged rim
Feel your pain. Had my summers refurbed when they were off the car and my winters were on, been really careful since, not a mark on them until now...... Weds the main A road to MK was closed by police, all traffic including trucks and buses being diverted through a tiny village, I nibbled the left rear on a left hander against the village pavement granite kerb stone. Always looks at its very worst when you initially look at it, paint fragments splintering off. Initial thought was to bite the bullet and have the whole wheel done again. Next time I wash the car I might try and clean it up and rub it down a bit to see if I can live with it.
Edit to add mine are Asymmetric 2s. Tyre thankfully intact

Re: Damaged rim
Thanks guys. The tyre's fine and, as I said, the damage isn't significant, but it's just so ***** frustrating when your p&j sustains any knocks. I think I'll get the rim refurbed again over the winter (£80
) when I don't use the car much, and will try Michelins or GYs next time

Told my Dad and he couldn't understand what the fuss was about (but then he does drive a MG ZR thing and the rims look like they featured on Ben Hur
)

Re: Damaged rim
Yep, I've done the same, a couple of months mines lasted. Got the wheels back from Lepsons and they were looking awesome.
One day dropping the Mrs off at Geneva airport, there's one of they tight as fcuk bits you have to drive through and take a ticked just to drop someone off, I Just nipped the off side front on the highest kerb in the world as I was lining up to go through. The Mrs noticing this looked across to me and said "I'm glad that was you and not me" I tried my hardest to come up with an explanation to make it her fault, but sadly couldn't!!!!

Re: Damaged rim
Worst I have came across is the indoor parking at Union Square in Aberdeen when you exit you cannot even see the kerb as it does the downward spiral. I kerbed the wife's A3 when she was in the passenger seat as you can imagine I am still living that down! Lost my man card that day!!!

Re: Damaged rim
I feel your pain. My RS4 was only 3 days old and I reversed out of my drive and kerbed rear wheel against opposite pavement It's frustrating when you do it.

Re: Damaged rim
Bit disappointed, I saw the title and was expecting a much more interesting thread about some sexploits from last night... But while we are of the topic, how about this one, I bought my Nissan Navara brand new. Before it was built I already had a set of brand new 22" ranger rover sport alloys for it. As soon as the dealer dropped the truck off at my house I put the 22s in the back and made the 5 minute drive to my local tyre dude to swap the wheels over. Anyway, on the way back home with my brand new truck with brand new rims I decided to drive around the traffic into the left hand lane. Trouble was, my other car at the time had a very fast steering rack (less than 2 turns lock to lock) and the truck had probably the slowest rack in the world, needless to say I didn't turn the steering anyhwere her enough and clipped the kerb. This was less than 1 mile from having them fitted and about a total of 3 miles!
Re: Damaged rim
I managed to kerb all 4 in one go
there is a narrow bridge I drive through. Being used to my old car ( a Polo) I thought it will fit through, man was I wrong... tears in my eyes. Now I take a 10mile detour just to avoid the bridge.
