Can you get an auto-dimming mirror for the RS4

Wondering if anyone knows of where I can get an automatically dimming rear view mirror? I'm sure getting a power source from the sunroof console would be simple so has anyone done it? I haven't had to flick a mirror at this time of year for ages.

Not heard of anyone retro-fitting, but wouldn't think it was too hard.

Yes, I spec'd one into my car. BIG REGRET. Its SO irritating that I have black tape over the sensor. It dims in town and you can't see cars behind in the traffic. Waste of time. Good old switch is best.

Was an option so it should not be hard to fit, the door mirrors dimmed too.......only problem is that you cant see what is behind you, bit of an issue when it is a Police Car

That's the main problem. Police. Lucky so far not to get done but the Auto Dimming Mirror is definitely not the best extra to have .

The sensor is a little hole under the centre of the mirror I understand. Is it reasonably obvious and sufficiently different from the standard mirror, so that I can tell when test driving a potential purchase whether it has the option or not?

Standard mirror has a dirty great switch on the bottom of it

I disagree, and personally like the Rear View Auto Dimming mirror (If you wern't doing something silly you would not worry about the police ) I have had one in my last 2 cars and am looking for one in my next car (RS4)

But seriously they are quite easy to retro fit (well they were on the old MKIV Golf/Bora, and you will need the feed from the Interior light console). I beleive you will need just the +ve and -ve feeds.

If you search on the UK MKIV Forums there is a site that details retro-fit.

Will be very similar to the Audi me thinks.

Mine doesn't have a switch that i know of or dim the wing mirrors. I agree that you cannot really tell what is behind you but you can just look in the wing mirrors instead.
You don't really appreciate it until you get in a car without it fitted (same with arm rest)

I think people are referring to the standard rear view mirror having the 'Manual' dipping lever/button/switch.

Like you I like my auto one and if I really want to see behind properly, i put a finger over the sensor! and I certainly could not do without the armrest.

Yep, I like mine too. And my wing mirrors auto dip too. I thought I was imagining it at first but when a car turns its lights on behind you it is obvious.

Yep I liked the one in my Range Rover too. When active you couldnt actually recognise the make of the car behind other than to say it was 'two headlamps' , but it kills the dazzle and you definitely know something's there!

If you drive an RS 4 you are usually doing something 'silly' Never met one yet that was keeping to the speed limit
