Officially you need to use a specific VAG oil (G002 000). However I bought some 3rd party oil (a premium brand - can't remember the name) from Halfords and used that. Since it's only a top-up (you really don't need to put much in), I reasoned that it should be OK.

I did search the internet for some info and did find various discussion forum threads including some which suggested that non-VAG oils can degrade seals in the long run, however many which suggested that a decent 3rd party oil is fine.

I suppose if it's easy for you to get to a VAG dealer then you're best off with the proper stuff, but if not just do what I did.
