G-box failed day after service

Post by chunky79 » Fri Aug 09, 2013 7:11 am

Yup, it has finally got me 102k miles and gearbox has failed. I thought to myself, do I change the oil or do I leave it. Well got the van on the ramp, carried out full service and changed g-box oil. Drove down to supermarket on the way home, Started to come home and really bad noise from box. Got to work again yesterday and bloody noisy again :(
Glad it's not the car :kissmyrings:

Yup, well think so. I started removing it yesterday afternoon. Not sure if they will just give me a new van as i'm due one at the end of the year or get it repaired. Sounded like the bearing on the input shaft has gone. Nobody can believe how long I have gone without needing a clutch or box, I had 3 clutches and 2 boxes before 70k in my last van!

So, can you use the 6 as a temporary van replacement and claim business mileage? ;)

Phew - thought it was another 6 box problem!!!

I used my Avant to collect a load of stuff from our local builder's merchant the other day. 10 sheets of plasterboard on the roof, various bits of timber and fixings, a selection of plumbing bits and bobs and a few sacks of plaster.
Lad in the warehouse who helped me load reckoned it was the fastest builders van he had ever seen!

I bought an exhaust for the missus Peugeot (feckin car!) and put it through the ski hatch/bag. Sweet!

Hope you can fix the van chunky!

I'm liking your work there! :beerchug:

I think I've finally started to enjoy my 6 without thinking about any slight noise or is that a possible issue moment which to be honest I always have in the frost few months of ownership unless I've bought from new.

The hours of homework I carried out to enable me to sort the chaff from the wheat also made me a little paranoid but like anything in life nobody ever comes on a forum to regale how reliable their car is so I would like to think there might be a large percentage of reliable 6's out there?

I saved mine from a fate worse than death as somebody else wanted to buy it to tow their horsebox. I suggested a RR and while they considered stole mine from under them

The 5 stages of RS6 ownership:

1. Denial - My gearbox / DRC won't fail. It's all hyped up by the forums. Ling Longs will be perfectly adequate for the kind of driving I do in a 500hp car.
2. Anger - Fcuknuts, my car's losing water, running lumpy and now my Ling Longs appear to be down to minimum after 450 miles.
3. Bargaining - Come on guys, what else could it be other than a head gasket?
4. Depression - I should have bought a 335d, why does this always happen to me?
5. Acceptance - Yes, Mr Bank Manager, just tell me when you'd like me to spread my legs.
