Well it is on an audi uk list to look at, but sounds as though they say it is safe, just they might look to adjust the feel of it....

From some of the videos I've seen it doesn't look very safe. But the problem doesn't seem as wide spread in the uk so maybe they in no rush because of this.

Just thought I would add to this.

I've had my FL S4 for 6 months now, and I have constantly whinged that the steering feels very heavy at times and not involving at all, very disappointing overall as I was expecting a much better drive.

Anyhow, had the car in at the Dealers on Friday and mentioned it, they said it may need the Software update.

To cut a long story short, it had the update and........wow! complete transformation. The steering feels really well weighted and responds really well to driver input with a fair degree of feedback. I can't believe how different the car feels and drives. Very happy.

If you have a B8.5 S4 I strongly recommend you get this checked out & updated ASAP. I wish I had taken it in several thousand miles back.

Registered September 2012. I bought it from a main dealer in Jan 2013.

TBH I didn't expeience the notchy / slip you described, more variation in stiffness and difficult to get the car flowing through corners. Wasn't expecting the update to make such a difference and cure the problem. Total transformation :)

My S5 is in the dealer today and they mentioned I need a software update on the steering. I will report back if it feels any different.
