Wheel spacers?

Post by parmd » Wed Jul 31, 2013 10:37 pm

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of putting the 20mm MTM wheel spacers on my car when it arrives in October. The cars going in for a wrap and the wheels will be off anyway and so it makes spence to do it while its on the ramp. However I've never had spacers on any of my cars so just wandered if the mess up the geometry/handling/stability of the car. Any advice would be great?

Suppose I'm trying to enhance the width of the car even further(haven't seen one in the flesh yet so I'm happy o be corrected if it oesnt need them) :biggrin3:

On mine it did put the geometry out a little (even more now it's lowered) however it wasn't anything to be concerned about. Bear in mind that when you space you may need to lower as well as the spaced wheels really show any arch gap.

The RS6 I saw didn't look like it needed spacers to be honest. If it did they would be tiny ones.

I'd drive it first. It's a big old thing on the road and another 40mm of width spells doom for the alloys.

I reckon 20mm will be too much (assuming we're talking per spacer & not across the axle).

Which one have you gone for Air or DRC?

Agreed. You've have to be nuts to stick any spacers on - let alone 20mm!

Have a lot at these pics from Hilbeckley and myself - 21s are already absolutely filling the arches! So as well as leave you prone to kerbing as Doodlebug mentions, spacers will cake the sides of the car in shiit

Thank for the advice, think ill leave it alone in that case. Don't want to mess with the geometry and certainly don't want to cake up the sides of the car and damage the wrap. Cheers ill post some pics up when it's done decided to go for a matt blue wrap

Well the original idea was to just go matt grey so I ordered a hey metallic car. However I had the vinyl prices up assuming it was clear matt but when I met with Paul at Pwpro it turn out the wrap is actually a matte coloured vinyl so I would have ha to go for the closest grey (lighter than the factory matt). While I was there I saw an awesome matt blue wrap on a gtr and I've gone for that as its more of an electric blue rather than the Audi inky blue.
I think it will look nice against the aluminium mirrors /
Roof rails etc.
