Bit gutted, got a puncture on the outside edge of my 18" goodyear f1s, it was a bloody fat screw.
i took the alloy off and put the audi spare (looked like a 16" or 17") on in its place so i could go and get the puncture repaired. I was told they couldnt repair it cos of the location of the puncture.
So i get back to the car and decide to move it round the corner with the spare on. As i tried to pull off there was resistance, almost as if the handbrake was on, it just didnt want to move. I gave some more revs then jerked forward a little and was then fine, it started moving.
I am really worried that i may have done some damage but cant tell much at the moment as its dark. I cant think for the life of me what would have been causing the resistance and why it jerked forward, any ideas?

never mind, just keeping things the same. Ive ordered 2 f1s in 235/40/18 from a company called event mobile tyres. They are relatively cheap and they come out and fit for free. Only have to pay once the work has been done and you are happy with the job.

They supply a spare of the correct size though!!toasty wrote:perhaps something to do with the different radius of the two wheels.
I know they say you can damage the diff running on different tyres for a long time, but it can't be unsafe using the spare or else they wouldn't supply it.
S4 B5 is 17 inch standard.
yep it is but the i have 235/40/18 on the 18s instead of 225/40/18. Doubt this would be too bad though, i drove all of 15 metres with the 17" spare on. Morpheous, do you have ideas as to why the car had some resistance when i tried to pull off or why it jerked forward. Is there anything that could have got damaged in the process of changing a wheel?

Hi there.
I came across this recently too.
I had a puncture on an aftermarket 18" rim
Removed the wheel and put the 17" stock Avus spare on, with the same wheel bolts from the 18" wheel.
Try to drive off and wheel is locked solid.
Work out that aftermarket bolts are longer and seize hub/brakes.
Remove long bolts and replace with stock, slightly shoter ones from Avus 17" spare.
Breathe sigh of relief that i had tried to drive off very gently.
My advice to you - check that wheel's hub and brakes.

If you remove the wheel bolts, check for scraped metal on the ends of the bolts. If so, as long as they arn't too over long, should be ok but check carefully,
I have a set of new wheel bolts for the Avus if you need them, it would however be better to get an 18 spare of the same size, if it will fit in the spare wheel well.
This is due to the possibility of upsetting the drive train, abs and esp system by running one wheel possibly with a different rolling circumferance.

the bolt holes were not lined up properly when i tried fitting the spare. No damage done anywhere but found out that my alignment was way out. inside edge of the front 2 f1s were almost bald, rears looked ok, looks like more money now for an alignment. Thanks for all the help guys. These forums are a godsend for people like me.
