First service - assistance required!

Post by benm7 » Wed Jul 24, 2013 12:56 pm

Hi guys,
I am going to put my RS4 in for a service in the next month. It is ahead of schedule but am taking it on a road trip around Europe in September so want everything to be checked before I go.

I haven't put it in for a service yet so have a few questions:
1. Looks like people recommend supplying their own oil (assuming the stealer lets me). What oil should I get? I don't do track days so just need regular servicing oil
2. I am considering replacing gearbox oil as well. Again, what should I use and what should I expect to pay for the service for this?
3. My firmware needs upgrading, should I complain of cold start idle issues? I have the extended warranty so hopefully they should do it FoC.
4. Anything else i should supply to save costs from the stealer?

Thanks!

The best way to save costs from a stealer is not to let them near your car :audibash:

Haha agreed! It is still under warranty though and therefore keen to keep the Audi stamps on the log book, even if it means a few extra £. It's also too far for me to get to the likes of MRC, and I have a stealer around the corner so think i'll stick to them

Certainly buy your own oil - Eurocar parts are selling for £27.99 for 4ltrs at the moment (Gastrol Edge 5w30)

Think dealers charge something stupied like £20 per ltr

You need just over 9 ltrs.

i've always wondered about this - how do you know the garage has used the oil you supplied?

Provided they don't charge you at their rates it probably doesn't matter - but my guess would be choose a trustworthy garage as if you can't trust them to do that how do you know they changed the oil filter etc. anyway ?

Thanks for the comments guys.
This service is actually going to be a decent one, its the 55k service. Can anyone provide insight on what they have paid recently for this service? I have seen prices vary quite a bit.
Also I can get to a stealer in Cambridge, do you think they would be cheaper than a London stealer? PS. I will definitely call myself to confirm but wanted opinions first :)

Had 51k AVS service in March at Hatfield Audi, with pollen filter which was not due and additional DRC checks ( all fine!) and this came to £460 all in. Should have provided my own oil as this was £175 or so...

Thanks Sumdy, think I might do the same if they permit me. Where did you buy the plugs and brake fluid from? I can see the plugs on amazon for around £10 each by the looks of it.

£195 in Wakefield?! I was stealeraped!!
Didn't do my plugs, Manmaths says I would have paid about £250 or so if consumables were provided by me. Oil would have been about £60.

Sunday, I am guessing you spent about £160 on plugs and oil and other consumables?

I think plugs are age rather than miles related as mine were changed this year at about 30k.
