Right, today was key in finding out if I was going mad or not. All upgrades/fixes completed and the same mapper that mapped the Simtek in here did the map check/tweak. A problem was found immediately, she put down over 120hp LESS than when he last mapped her. No mention of torque loss but I have given up expecting ricer chaps to ever mention torque, quite bizarre really.

They noticed that the cam advance was staying locked at 15 degrees, instead of running at zero degrees when running normally/idling or summat like that, advancing the timing when booting it, then retarding the timing back again when cruising. I am not massively up on cam timing etc.

They phoned the previous owner to see if he had changed the cambelt since Simon mapped her and he hadn't. They think that a cam/the cams (again, glazed over a bit as I was just seeing £ signs and telling him to just sort it) have jumped a tooth. The stupid Simtek ECU cannot store error codes (quality.....) and the tuner doesn't have the software to query the ECU live, only the mapper does.

I asked them if running one tooth out would cause serious damage and they said highly unlikely, it just made the car feel lethargic when out by only one tooth. He didn't mention taking the cam cover off and looking at the notches to see if they could see/fix the position without needing the Simtek software and they said yes. I knew that already of course but made me think it odd that they were talking about monitoring it through the Simtek software.

Anyhoo, they are pulling that bit of the engine out tomorrow to check it over and no doubt will phone me to ask if they can change the 12k old cambelt while they are at it........

The bell was at around £2800 as of this afternoon. After they get to the bottom of this and the mapper comes down again to map tweak (could be 3 weeks or more), feck knows. They will also be mapping on only around 1/4 a tank of 2 month old Momentum 99 by that point at least, will have to send one of them off to the petrol station methinks.

Found this and wondering if it is related so sending it to the tuner - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hht6VAV9-w8

Talking to myself again but meh. For completion, It was the cam timing, the cambelt tensioner had worked loose, was "flopping about" and the timing was out by 17 degrees.....

Without taking the engine apart, they reckon I will be ok but was very lucky (with these engines I am not counting on it). Replacement cambelt and supporting bits going on but missed my slot with the mapper until he is next there (Mid-August) so will get booked in for that as I want to make 100% sure she is running optimally.

Might just be able to pick her up next week.

This one is now no more, looks like matey wrapped it round a tree or something as it was smashed up on his drive and was taken away yesterday.

As in the words on Jay Z...."on to the next one"

Sorry, the image didn't quote for some reason with the text.

All stickered up ones deserve to be stacked IMO ;)

Phoned for an update on the car. Couriers have lost the clutch that took over 3 weeks to get here. Asked the guys to have a quick look at why sod all water was coming out o the rear wash since they had the rear shelf etc out already . Was expecting it to probably be the rear pump in the res but they said that the washer was clogged.

Unfortunately, they have to take the spindle etc out and they sheered off the thread trying to remove the securing nut. replacement unit is TWO HUNDRED SODDING POUNDS and it is a 12 week lead time. Trying to source a non-lunched second hand one but even without this, the bill has passed £3k for this shatmobile lol....

The clone ducktail bootlid has been made and doesn't look too bad so will grab one of those and get it sprayed up.

New clutch is in, car is sitting back on the ground again on the raised (if you say so) suspension. Those wheels have got to go, look too small and look too far in, sigh.....

The wheels look good to me. You sure you need to change them?

When you planning on having this thing on the road?

No they just don't to me. They look too small and too set inside the arches. I need something right in between the too wide gold rotas that were on there and those, filling the arches perfectly like the Superturismos on the 6 ideally.

What pisses me off is that pretty well everywhere that does lots of wheels, that you can drive up to and try wheels, is ooooooooop north. I don't "do" North unless I am being forced, too many miles for me and too much North for me ;)

She will be ready when she is ready, I gave the garage strict no rush instructions and to follow my fix list to the letter/find anything else and sort it within reason. JGM isn't back to check/adjust the map until early September so I won't be waiting that long but I am talking to him currently about upgrading the Simtek ecu to the more advanced Alcatek ecu for me, cloning the map across then coming over to me and we can just go out and live map her as I did with the the other scoobs. The roads around here are perfect for it.

I reckon that I could well be picking her up next week. I don't reckon the bootlid will be on until Mid-August and I have some QC concern that I have express to the guy making them after seeing fitted pictures yesterday.
