Wet carpets.....?

Post by S4driver » Sat Nov 06, 2004 4:43 pm

On doing a few jobs around the car i noticed the underside of the carpet is wet....It has not gone through the carpet just the under side.

I have taken the drivers side seat out completely, folded the carpet back and it is virtually the whole length...There is no water in the footwells, obviously the under side of the carpet is acting like a sponge.

Any ideas what could be causing this or where i should be looking :?

Two things to check which spring to mind.
Remove trim covering brake servo/battery, and check for a pool of water half way up the battery. If this is the case, the two rubber grommeted drain holes are blocked with sludge and debris, poke your finger or a blunt instrument into them to drain water off, then clean out removing all sticky sludge.

The A4 and A6 suffer from this alot around this time of year, more so if its parked under trees for any length of time.
The ac / heater box fills with water which gets into the car via the floor vents.

Other obvious one is has screen been replaced resulting in water ingress?

Ah also check trim above pollen filter is fitted correctly.
