Re: Autocar B8 RS4 vs VXR8 Touring
After having both if the previous models (b7 rs4, vxr8) I would say that is a fair assessment.
I bought my vxr8 brand new from a dealer with zero miles for 28k. At the time a spec'd rs4 was 50k+ so it was easier to forgive the vxr8's faults.
Now on price parity... Tricky.
I do agree the vxr8 has bucketfuls of personality and charm. And for laugh out loud fun it is simply so entertaining. I'm not a great drifter but its just so easy in the big '8. Spend more time looking out the side windows than the front.
It also was much more comfortable (probably a little too soft) and would chew motorway miles whilst ticking over at under 2k rpm.
No doubt the rs4 is the 'better' car but for somebody looking for something a little different and fun then worth trying the vxr8.

Vxr8 quite simply a disgusting plastic minga of a car

Agree - the new ones are just plastic vents everywhere. Looks like it was used for a ram raid at Halfords.Silas wrote:Vxr8 quite simply a disgusting plastic minga of a car
The mk1 originals are actually (IMO) pretty good.

PMSL ^^^
What's the pricing doing? Surely you'd only buy one at mega discount.

How they could get the whole rear drive, big power recipe so wrong is beyond me entirely..
In fact, it was so badly made and the body shell so flexible, that every time you braked hard into a corner at night, the interior light would come on as the car flexed so much it thought the door was open...

Just to point out, it was a recent saloon I drove, not an estate..Graeme4130 wrote:Inclined to agree too. genuinely one the sh1ttest, poorly made pieces of cr@p I've ever had the displeasure to drive..adsgreen wrote:Agree - the new ones are just plastic vents everywhere. Re: Autocar B8 RS4 vs VXR8 Touring
Older ones were ok - don't get me wrong. They won't win any prizes for handling, ride quality or interior build (the fecking radio didn't even have RDS... constantly changing the settings to keep it tuned) but I didn't have too much issue with the basic recipe.
But as I said - for sub 30k they were an absolute steal (IMO)... pushing 50k+... personality only goes so far.
