Best way to buy a B8

The more I research the B8 the more I want one.

A few bone questions though:

What are the must haves as optional extras?

Never bought a car at this price range - what's the best payment option? (Have a B7 as part ex - is Audi Finance any good?)

Is it as good as a B7? (I realise its an Individual thing but just seeing what concencus is)

Hi mark
I'll try my best to answer your questions, but I'm sure someone else will pip in with a different experience

In terms of must haves, then i'd suggest the sports pack, or at least the 20" wheels are a must have as the bigger wheels really make the car look more aggressive, and the exhaust, as part of the sports pack, give it the sound it needs

Payment options are really down to what you can afford and how long you wish to be tied in for
When you're paying £60k+ for a car, Audi finance tend to be pretty flexible, so you'd probably want to pop into a dealer and see what they'll be able to offer.
Don't expect a great PX on your own car though, although just giving the dealer the keys and moving on is significantly easier than the potential minefield that selling your car privately can be
Selling an RS4 privately could expose you regularly to idiots/time wasters/boy racers/theives etc, so personally, I didn't find it worth a couple of £k to deal with and just chopped mine it. It was known to the dealer and I built a good relation with them, so it was an easy process, although I'm certain I'll see my car advertised through them at a good 3-4k more than they paid me for it
I've just moved into a B8 and so far it's way ahead of the B7 in so many ways, not to mention quicker. Saw a friend with his b7 today and it just seemed so dated after the much more modern b8

Wait 2 years and let someone else lose 25k :biggrin3: keep driving your equally as good b7 in the meantime and lose 6-7k no brainer given theres no performance advantage on the new one.If you must have the latest tech nav etc then strap yourself up on b8 but personally I buy RS4s for there performance.

This is a good point about depreciation - what will a new B8 realistically lose in 2-3 yrs?

It's not gonna be far off that. Probably be worth 50-60% in 3yrs, but then they plateau a little and the depreciation curve tails off
If you look at the B7 in comparison, then at 3yrs/30k miles, they were still fetching 35-40k but that then didn't fall away as quick, as even now 7yrs/60k mile cars are still going for 25

I think if you're too worried about depreciation, then look in a years time. Used cars now are at little to no discount and some even fetching a premium. Many of the used ones with audi's system are ex demo cars and would've been ranted to within an inch of their life for 3-4k, so are probably worth avoiding too

I agree with the sport pack option as it is a no brainer financially and the 19s look too small, the sports exhaust is awesome.

Others are probably nice to haves of which I probably have most of if you want to ask specific questions.

Can't help on finance as I'm fortunate not to have to use it.

Try and sell yours privately, I cleared an extra £4k (on £20k) on my X5 doing this which is not to be sniffed at and sold it to the first person to see it.

Agree on sports pack being a must have. Depending on colour I think the black optics is also quite nice. I also opted for sunroof, heated front and back, B&O, 3G MMI (now std), Bluetooth high, the v-spokes and prism.

Am happy with all of these perhaps the extended Bluetooth being the least useful. I kept the atandard alcantara seats and they are great. Generally the car comes pretty full esp if you add the sports package.

On financing check what audi has to offer - when I got mine they were offering 1,700 contribution and very competitive finance rates which you could if you want pay off right away and just keep the 1,700 contribution.

Did you know the dealers mark up on finance is actually £3900, so that should be the OP's base point for negotiation
This is, of course, on top of the mark up they have on the car itself

Like ecav says, take the car on finance, take the discount/offer you can negotiate, and then pay off as much as you can or all of it
Fwiw, dealer told me that 95% of RS4's are sold on finance and this sales guy had sold 18 this year already

First stop would be make contact with a car broker such as broad speed, get a ball park idea from their website, currently they are suggesting a 7k discount if you buy through them. I would then tackle the dealer and see if you can get better. If you need to finance then so long as you have an offset mortgage and enough in your facility I would use this to purchase as long as you pay it off equally as quick as hp then it will work out cheaper but do not stretch it out over a longer period as you will pay more. If this is not an option approach Lombard finance direct and ask what they would charge, they will do all the usual balloon finance and will deal direct with the dealer once you have introduced them. Then once you have a firm quote from Lombard or similar approach the dealer and try to better what Lombard have quoted. Lombard should be around 6% apr. Oh..and sell the b7 privately as suggested. I don't think you will find any decent lease deals on the B8.

I thought Lombard had moved out of this market?

Now is a good time to strike a deal on anything on the dealers books as end June beckons there will be some desire to shift stuff.

Not as far as I am aware, I had a couple of quotes from them a few months ago but that's not to say you are wrong merely I was not aware.
