RS2 Powerflex Bushes

We had this posted up on Audifans.net (I'm site admin on there :wink: ) by Matt from powerflex,,,,so I thought I'd post it here too,,,,,this is a copy and paste of his post,,,,,,,,,

We have been getting loads of phone calls on new bushes so we have finally finished bushes for the Audi RS2.

Anyone know what size anti roll bars the early 1994 model rs2 had?

I have a spare set of PFF3-101 (4 bushes) sitting in front of me, they were fitted for a short time but work fine.

Why were they only used for a short time? Are the originals better? I have just bought a sot of powerflex and can't wait to put them in and try them out.

look forward to some feedback on the powerflex bushes, as it about time mine are renewed along with the top mounts and shocks.

I've gottenm reports that on the ride on the rs2 at least would become noisier and harsher. But its hard to quantufu by how much, so I think I'm just going to replace them with OE parts.

I have powerflex ones in there again now and they are a big improvement, the first set I put in i had problems with them squeaking. Afterwards I realised they were probably just a little tight and that is what caused the problem. :oops: so left with a spare set now.

I destroyed my Powerflex bushes in a few months (but then I can pull in excess of 1.5g in deceleration with my new brake setup). I have pressed wishbones (as opposed to cast) and the steel ends up digigng into the bush exacerbating its demise. Superflex do a much better bush for the pressed wishbone as it has a formed sleeve to prevent the wishbone digging into the bush. I have only seen pictures of the Superflex bush but the design looks as though it would solve the problems I had. Not sure how easy sourcing is for Superflex becuase they are an Australian firm with only 1 UK agent.

NVH (Noise Vibration Harshness) on an RS2 will be unchanged from standard with any Poly bush. Don't forget NIKO, you have another set of compliant bushes between the subframe and the chassis. THe only purpose of the subframe is to support the front wishbones. Polyeurethane bushes will last longer than standard without any noticable ride alteration. In fact you'll get sharper responses.

what about the solid subframe bushes people are fitting nowadays?

I spoke to a guy from superflex a while back and can source the bushes quite easily.

Not too sure Greg. One nice feature of the B4 chassis is the fact that we have a set of bushes between the wishbones and the subframe and another set between the subframe and the monocoque. Firming up on one set of bushes hardly affects ride but putting solid ally subframe bushes in will probably make things quite a bit harder on amny surfaces. I am sure responses would be greatly improved especially on an older car with tired bushes. The main reason originally for two sets of bushes between wishbone and monocoque is for refinement but you also get a reduction in peak forces on the structure on most maneouvers.

Solid subframe bushes and poly wishbone bushes should be OK for road use but I wouldn't do it on my car. I live in rural Wales and my suspension takes a hell of a hammering on the lanes. The last think I want is cracks in the bodywork just for the sake of a bit of extra feedback on turn-in. When I am sliding sideways on a road of fresh cow pats (like I did 3 times today!) the ally bushes aren't going to make any difference at all! If I still lived in Guildford I would definately make the change as the roads there are a bit better (although proportional to the wealth of its residence, the least well maintained!!).
