iPod connection

Post by Flumper » Tue Apr 30, 2013 8:10 pm

So I am due to collect the new one in a couple of weeks and have a question about music / phone connection.

In my B7 I simply Bluetoothed my Blackberry to the phone connection and then had an iPod doc in the Glove box - worked well if crude on iPod control.

But I now I have the B8 coming and I have just upgraded to an iPod touch generation 5 that has the smaller connection jack like the iPhone 5. I still have my blackberry. I have the MMI 3G high phone connection option ordered.

So will I still be able to use my phone as normal via bluetooth and hook up the iPod for music via a dock connection in the glove box?

Probably should have checked before dropping £60k on a car...

Simple answer is YES. Your phone should still connect via Bluetooth and your iPod will connect through the AMI with a connecting cable. You can then play your iPod through the media option and selecting your source. Alternatively you can download your music onto the jukebox via either your iPod or SD card. Just make sure the dealer gives you the correct connection cable for your iPod. I would check with them before you pick the car up so they have it in stock. Hopefully they won't try and charge you for it. :beerchug:

Cheers mate - thought so but it's been difficult to track down a definitive answer on the web.

I'll stick a call into the dealer tomorrow to confirm they have the cable.

AFAIK Audi don't yet do a cable with the new Apple "Lightning" connector so you'll probably have to use a 30-pin to Lightning adapter.

Yep - spoke to dealer today and this was the advice. No problem from Audi as they can't keep pace with Apple. So a quick look at this Apple product..... A cheeky £30!

You have to admire the rapacious nature of the Apple support market!

+1

And remember that there are currently no AV output options using the Lightning connector, although Apple are hinting at making something available "soon".
