Dave, do the police have any leads? Have they given you any good news? Could they flag the plate so their onboard and ANPR cameras could almost track the vehicle?

CCTV might give you as the owner peace of mind, but the reality is , if the thieving bas*rds wear hoodies or balaclavas , then all CCTV does is help speed up your insurance claim.

I`d much rather have the footage and not be able to recognise anything then wonder what the footage may have shown....

Better they take the car peacefully than hurt anyone to get the keys.

Problem with CCTV is it says "I've got something worth protecting". Depends on your area. If I were to put CCTV cameras up, I'd be the only one around that had them and I'm convinced it would attract unwanted attention. In an area where everyone has got them, you've got to have one.

Get another C5, Dave. It's still possible to get a nice one and prices are as low as they will go. Never been a better time to buy a 3rd RS6. :)

What do people think about anti-carjacking things? I'm looking into these. They let the thief get away a safe distance then disable the car.

I have had Clifford blackjack on various cars and I don't know of a better system. Start the car, input the code within 30 secs and you are ok. If you don't then I beeps at you, another 30 secs without entering the code and the car disables, it cycles down the revs until at a slow speed then cuts the ignition with all alarms blaring. Keypad is hidden and discrete. Thief is up toa mile away with alarms blaring and police probably on way. Car is safe and undaaged. Job jobbed.
Last time I had it it was £150 on a group buy on scoobynet some years ago.

I was looking at a Blackjax, but there is frustratingly little information on their website about it. How is the code input? Does it have a pad? I'm looking at another system that is completely stealthy - just a combination of button presses on the car's own switches / stalks that you have to input if the drivers door opens or the engine cuts out 2 mins later.

Expertly hidden cctv attached to a hdd is no more of an attraction then any other security measure including alarms. It says I may have something to protect but youve got to be willing to smile for the camera to get it and risk traversing whatever measures are inside the home to prevent you from leaving with things you havent paid for..

Security gates, good glazing, cctv, dogs.... make my day... :biggrin3:

Wow. Sounds like a nice prison you've made yourself there! ;-)

I actually agree with all that except for the dog. Too much hassle and poo.

No, it's the barking, the smell, the slobber and the shat. Other than that, I love dogs. Like kids... better when they are someone else's. :)

The exercise thing wouldn't worry me, I'd just tie it to the bumper of the Rangey, put it on full lock, drop it in D and let it do wide circles in the garden for an hour or so and try not to forget. Actually I wouldn't have to worry about that last, it would run out of fuel after a couple of hours.

This.

Just change it up a little, different colour.

I just realised you haven't got all your good parts to swap over like you did the last one, so you need to buy the best you can find, really.

Was Keany not considering selling his car? Probably the most 'like for like' as it is MRC STG2, ACE TC, new gearbox, albeit not a 517. Don't think he's rocking (no pun intended) DRC though.
