Lots of RS4's were registered to the dealer first. Reason is dealers could not take delivery of the next one until the one they were holding was 'sold', so they registered them in various names of people at the dealer with zero mileage.

I would be worried about all the other owners.

£200 off for the Falkens?! more like £700 as you'll need 4 new tyres :D

6 owners and crappy tyres doesn't sound like the ideal car to me - there are more out there. It's not a unique car, Avus is the most common colour, why not wait and see what else turns up if you're not 100%?

At least QST's examination came up pretty well.

Have had it HPI'd and everything checks out but not spoken to any previous owners as yet.

It is a 2001 model and now has about 34,500 miles on it so I think sub-£30K would be a fair price. Will see if the seller is willing to budge on the price.

I don't think that it's worth £31K given that there is a 51-reg (2002) model with 2 owners and 26.5K miles on the clock for 32,950 with a couple of months warranty left on it!

Also remember the 40k service coming up at about £1k. By the time you've put 4 new tyres, warranty and 40k service, you will have spent £2.5k in the next few months. Factor this into your offer if I were you.

I take it you have called Audi UK and all the history/spec checks out?

Seems the 2002 car makes a lot more sense,whats the spec like?

Ben - The car has already had the 40K service. Have spoken to Audi UK and the history / spec checks out. Have met the owner several times and have spent a couple of months checking the car out so have no qualms about the condition of the car. The only question is what is the right price. What are your thoughts?

Fc - The 2002 car is on a 51-reg (Jan 2002) with the following spec:

Nogaro with black hi-tec interior
Sunroof
Towbar (thought that this isn't standard on a RS4?!)
26K miles
Warranty until Jan '05
FASH - last service 2 months go
No damage / accidents
6000 miles on current set of tyres
Road use only
Tracker

Reason for sale is that the current owner has done 5000 miles in the last 14 months!

If the seller isn't willing to come down from 31K I will go for the 2002 car.

£31k is pretty strong to be fair, sounds like you're moving towards the Nogaro car anyway :D

What do you mean by strong? Do you mean that it is a good price for the car or that it is a touch high?

May I ask how much you were charged for an inspection at QST and what in entailed? IMO, if the car stacks up by an expert like Kim, surely that counts for a lot? Weather its had 2 owners or 6!

Strong - not cheap. I remember when I was looking an Azure Blue one came up awhich had 5 owners and that was reflected in the price. I thought about it for a while but only because of the colour it was of interest to me. I had to try and put myself in the position when it came to re-sale time, and another owner on the log book.
I'm sure there's nothing wrong with this example but what is drawing you towards it? Can't be the price.

Inspection at QST is £75+VAT and takes an 1.5h. Kim checks the car over visually, gets it on a ramp, plugs in the VAGCOM and checks for diagnostic codes and then takes it for a test drive. Everything you can do short of starting to take the car apart and I guess what you are paying for is Kim's knowledge and experience of RS4s.

Given that the AA inspection is more expensive and less involved (basically a visual examination of the car as far as I can tell) without even checking for codes I think it's good. Also, I'm pretty sure the AA guys won't have much experience of inspecting RS4s!

Ben - I am in a similar dilemma. Do you mind if I ask what sort of impact that high a number of owners had on the price? i.e. 10% less than the market price for the car?

I spoke to Fontain's and the trade price they gave me was £29K for a two owner car. With 6 owners, they reckoned that it was only worth £24/25K!!

I think that £29K is a fair price for the car given the number of owners, lack of warranty, dents/scratches, tyres and buckled wheel on the car. What do people think?

There will always be an excuse buy the car at a lower price, but will that always be reflected in the re-sale price.............

IIRC, theres that RS4 in Scotland thats up for £40k at the showroom, that was stolen unregistered, but that seems a pretty high price bearing in mind the circumstances.........IMHO

At the end of the day, you have to buy the car your happiest with at a price your willing to pay.An RS4 is a rare and desireable car, and providing the car is in good condition should not be difficult to sell on....IMHO
