should tire valves be replaced?

Post by kay » Mon Jul 30, 2012 12:24 pm

Since my tires are still at kwikfit, on putting everything together , they kept them over weekend to ensure no leaking of air from the tire valves cos they were all separated and taken off from the alloys when getting them refurbed. One is leaking, so have to replace. Apart from cosmetic reasons, is it wise to just replace all of them cos they are over 5 yrs old now, but I don't know Wat can go wrong with them if they are sealing well and are currently ok?

the official audi line is replace valves every time they are removed.
maybe see if you can source the little rubber o-rings in the valve set up from somewhere and just change them if the rest of the valve is ok?

I think they are reasonably priced, so why not change them. I got mine from Unit 20.

just looked at mine and it isnt a normal o-ring its shaped to fit the valve, looks like new valves.
its about £50 for 4 valves.

So its just the o ring that is the weakest link? I thought maybe if I ever put air in, perhaps the air inlet pin/ entrance could rust up if they are old or otherwise become faulty with age, so didn't want to be stranded.
Dug out an old invoice and approx 18 months ago on last tire change, I actually had to replace two of the valves, so Atleast 2 of them are not that old

Hi, I am about to get all 4 wheels refurbed so good time to change all 4 valves I guess. What is the correct part number and where is best place to purchase on-line?

Thanks,

Dave
