I heard the average yearly gross income is around 20-25000 Euro per year in Australia, and the tax rate is seriously steep.

that cauz your govt wants to protect the local car industry. I see though that this is about to reduce, which'll mean cheaper RS's for AU.
Kiwi, how much is an RS4 in NZ (if there's any for sale), and is it worth the effort to import into AUS?
Are there any RS4's for sale in Australia at the moment? I am immigrating to Oz in December and am seriously considering importing mine from the UK.

The import taxes are quite absurd, but as there were only 30 RS4's brought into the country - I figure I better bring the beast with me.

There's one I know of in Victoria, 20k km, price is still more than you would have paid for a new one in Europe.

I heard that import duties are insignificant if you can prove you owned the car for more than a year. So definitely the way to go. And if you have the GmbH suspension fitted, take the original one with you. Roads are quite harsh.
I sold my RS4 before going to Australia. :bash:

A good salary in Australia is about $70,000 AUS per year. A small percentage of people reach six figures say 100k - 200k per year. Dollar for dollar RS4s or any Audi for that matter is very expensive in Oz.

I would definitely think about putting your car(s) in a container and bringing it over. I believe the import duties are very different (virtualy nill) if it is your personal car which you have owned for at least 6 months or maybe a year.

The bonus about the RS4s in Oz is that they all come standard with sued and sunroof. Curtain bags and Sat Nav were an option and only silver or black. The other plus is that they only came out late 2000 early 2001 so you can still pick up the odd low milage car. I picked mine up earlier this year with only 11,000 miles.

I believe the total number is 49 since some apparently made there way over from New Zealand.

Not much chance to drive them fast though :( ... although some would tell you otherwise

ok, here in Portugal a good salary is about 10 000€ (a little less in dollars) per year, so you get my point when i say here the RS4 enters in the carrera world in terms of price. :)

I have owned the car for almost 2yrs but I my understanding is that I still have to pay customs duty, GST and even possibly Luxury Car Tax. (This definitely does not add up to nil!)

Shame.

Who are the Audi tuners of choice in Oz? If the new model comes out next year it could be time for some mods.

I checked many years back and found you will deinfitely be exempt from some of the duties. It was definitely a worth while exercise if you own the car. I would think you would just have to pay GST on the carriage. I would check their website or ring them http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page.cfm

We have access to most of the regular tuners like MTM, Oettinger, Wetterauer , APR, etc. The guys on ozaudi would be able to help http://www.ozaudi.com , but once again upgrades will be much more expensive here.

I also expect we will get the new model at least 1 year after Europe.

Well

Imagine here in Brazil, that the taxes are 100 over the car price. A new S4 here cost 120 EUR, and the RS 6 170 EUR. It is a really bad time here to buy cars.
I hope in the future, things change a bit.

Best Wishes
WOT
