Bought a new server to host the site

Post by PhilT » Wed Mar 06, 2013 1:17 am

We have outgrown our current virtual server with 1GB RAM and 25GB disk, so we have taken the decision to move to a dedicated server with 12GB RAM and 2TB disk.

A big jump, but it should speed things up a little and allow for significant growth.

Onwards and upwards :beerchug:

Good work Mr T!

Is it too soon to talk of a roll out date?

Thanks for the support guys.

Go Live is going to be based on how busy I am with my day job :). The good news is that I did a load of testing beforehand and have written some automation scripts.

I'd like to have it live asap as every day it is doing nothing, it's money down the drain!!

OK, most of the testing is done so we will probably "Go Live" later today.

What will happen is that rs246.com, www.rs246.com and forum.rs246.com will be pointed to the new server. This is done via DNS and may take up to 48 hrs to replicate across the interweb.

In the meantime the "old site" will be disabled.
