Just out of interest how much does Kim charge for the gearbox oil change?

50K and box issues !! That sounds incredibly expensive (i.e. making a ceramic upgrade look cheap !)

Audi do do this as a procedure, on top of the bits I listed in my other thread, they recommend changing the sump bolts (kit of 13, V0B6 398 747 @£15.67). I didn't change these when I did mine and all is still good however....

Yeah.... very scary to hear issue with the box at that sort of mileage. I'll get them to change the bolts too... cheers catfood. :beerchug:

What about the oil in the lines, cooler and torque converter. You are only replacing around 70% of the oil removing the sump

Indeed. Just like when you change the oil in an engine. I might drain and fill mine again, as I bought 11 litres, but only got just over 5 litres out and back in again. I think the majority of the fluid remains in the torque converter. Reducing the concentration of particles in the fluid can only help however.

It can be done but real messy getting 100% of the oil out.

70% better then nothing though.

There is a company called Chester Auto Transmissions that have a machine which ensures it gets all the old oil out, and fresh new oil in. They will be cheaper than QST too, plus they do these all the time and are a ZF specialist, they rebuild all of Grizz's boxes for him and do a lot of work on the A8/S8 forum lots' cars too, great work and attention to detail. My advice, cancel the QST booking and book at Chester Auto Trans.

Thanks Amar. I'm sure Chester Auto Transmission is great but theres no way I'm driving all the way to Chester from down south to get the G/B oil change.

Thanks regardless.

I would imagine they would, however Doug at MRC has mentioned that he does this (regularly), and they will undoubtedly be less expensive and more conscientious. I'd give them a call.
Audi Centre Perth changed auto trans oil and filters at my request at 23,000 kms. Looked at me strange, as vehicle still under extended waranty, but "what the customer wants, the customer gets" with proviso he pays for it, of course. Transoil out of box was reported as "normal". Peace of mind worth the cost as i think i can detect slight whine on overun, but I am the only one who can hear it. Wifey says turn the radio up! No tranny codes thrown and changes gear ok.

Bringing back this post from the dead...

MRC have quoted £550 for a gearbox oil and filter change and I was going to get this done when it's in with them next week but the car is also in Audi tomorrow - just gonna grab a price from them (if they'll even do it).

I may however, after reading the above, attempt myself as doesn't look especially taxing and I can get the parts through TPS... Will have to see what the prices work out at - if it's only £100 or something more to pay MRC I might as well have them do it!

I had mine done with MRC. I assume they did a great job as they always do but as I didn’t notice any difference afterwards apart from a lighter pocket. The important thing is that it’s now done and my minds at rest for thousands of miles to come.

Well, Hitchin Audi have said they can do it, but not tomorrow. Total price is £374.57.

Parts are £234.17 and labour of £140.40, which seems very reasonable to me - as you say, for peace of mind if nothing else.

Going to mull this over!
