Weight distribution...

Post by DuncS3 » Mon Oct 11, 2004 1:07 pm

Right, the s3 on factory fitted 18" wheels requires 36 PSI all round according to the fuel filler cap. The TT on the same wheels (not knowing the exact figure) requires I believe a few PSI less in the rears.

Does this mean the S3 has a (possibly) 50/50 weight distribution? The fact that the tyres require the same PSI all round?

Dunc - I know you're game. You just wanna claim that the s3 totally out handles the TT. :bigblink:

Interesting point though. My TT I had set to 36F30R.

Duncan , I understand your logic but not sure if it is correct, however as the S3 has a longer wheelbase the distribution must be a bit better therefore it's obvious that S3s handle better than TTs.

Not rising to the bait....much....BUT

At Oulton Park we had a couple of S3s and my TT all running the same APR remap and all lapping very consistently i.e. only a suicide overtake move would have got through.

Admittedly I had H&Rs and Konis but I think at least one of the S3s was lowered. IIRC at least one was also running big after market brakes and I was on the standard ones.

I'm not saying the TTs better. I'm saying if there is anything in it then it's virtually 0.

Of course if the S3 was far better than the TT then someone needs to explain to me how at Castle Coombe or Oulton I was the one passing S3s and not vice-versa.  8)

TBH I didnt intend to start this as a TT vs S3 thing, but mentioned the TT as it is basically the same car but doesnt require the same PSI all round, so very useful for the comparison...I also do not think the S3 is far better at handling than the TT because I have never ever even sat in a TT let alone compared then. I do though think that as the S3 has a bigger standard rear ARB and smaller front than the TT then I would imagine that this alone would make the S3 feel a touch better to drive (as hinted at by a couple of reviews I have read)

BUT I totally agree the difference would be minimal and also a well driven TT could easily beat a S3 (ie its the driver in such closely matched cars)
