Depends if they've done the 3 week IHCD Emergency Response Course. That's what ambulance drivers have to pass of which only 4 days is blue light runs in a mixture of ambulances and Rapid Response Cars.

It's most likely going to be the new scheme they have got were if someone who has commited an offence such as drug dealing have been locked up there items such as Drug money, Cars, Stolen items will either be sold off or made to good use for the public.
There was a episode on the other day of "Police Interceptors" where they seized a MK5 R32 Golf from a drug dealer which was going to be used as one of there undercover vehicles.

The mpg of traffic police cars is always shocking because of all the extras they are usually required to fit and the way they like to drive them. Loads of heavy computer hardware and road safety stuff. An traffic cop told me up to 500kg but that sounded like an exaggeration. Maybe a V8 block would help pulling the the extra weight about, whereas a small turbo engines would be under considerable strain?

The amount of kit the haul around is pretty ridiculous. I remember seeing in the back of a V70 traffic car, and the boot was full to the cover with boxes of cones and fire-fighting stuff, first aid kits... anything they might need when out on the motorways.

Any doctor can put a green light on their car. I think to have a blue light you must be official ambulance, police or fire brigade.
