awesome set up
Re: awesome set up
Greg done my B5 for me it really is a thing of beauty and he likes a challenge, we'll see where this ends up I've not 110% decided on it yet

Nothing wrong with paying homage to the Quattrobam_bam wrote:The current B8 RS has box arches more as a homage

Re: awesome set up
Can you expand in that? I've found that not to be the case. I administer a quarter mile database on another site, and all the evidence says the rs4 responds to mods incredibly well.MikeFish wrote: The S4 engine is so much more tuneable but more importantly the RS4 is not available as a saloon so that is a killer for me.
The b8 s4 and the b7 rs4 are just about dead equal in a straight line until you get over 120 mph (rs4 gets the edge up high) .
What if you modify them? Tune, intake, exhaust, pulley b8 s4 on pump gas you're looking at 12.2-12.5@110-114mph at the quarter mile (and you have spent $5000/£3000 to do so).
We have a few rs4s that are right there, some without even being tuned.
Mistro RS4 saloon 12.4 @ 113 with just gutted precats, Intake spacers, resonator delete and suspension.
Jnaut 12.2@112 with just all cats gutted, stock catback, lw flywheel, rotors and seats. Couple other 12.2 @ 112 rs4s as well....These are all b7s.
The b8 rs4/5 are running 12.3-12.4 stock. APR tuned theirs and ran 12.2 @112 in pretty mediocre Conditions.
So to say the 3.0t cars are more tunable is weird...They're great if you plan on running race gas and a tune with loads of timing. But if you plan on driving it on pump gas like 99.99% of us do 100% of the time, the rs4 4.2 cars respond to mods very nicely.
Prediction : We will see an all motor (no supercharger) 4.2 FSI rs4 or rs5 in the 11 second range at the quarter mile in 2013.
Not to mention our 40% displacement advantage, a redline 1000 rpms higher and forged internals...means supercharging a 4.2 FSI can produce numbers the b8 s4 guys can only dream of at this point.
Re: awesome set up
£1500 is getting you 480ps and 550+ nms on the B8 that coupled with the auto box beats an RS4. We'll see a stage 3 b8 BEAT my rs4 b7 1/4 mile time in 2013 that's my prediction and hence why I fancy doing one

I predict a riot.
...how'd we get onto 1/4ers from box arches? Sakimano, I'm looking at you.

No matter where you go, there you are.
Re: awesome set up
pretty much what Danny said. Without looking up all the figures, you can get a bigger percentage increase on the S4 over the RS4 for a fraction of the price hence it is more tuneable.
The B8 RS4 engine is pretty much at its maximum already, only real gains are via forced induction for massive amount of money. Look at how much it will cost to buy an RS4 and supercharge it then look at what you can do with an S4 for the same money. It's very early days for the S4 engine and over the years I think there are some great things to come from it. Already we are seeing massive gains from remaps alone, throw in a filter and exhaust and its pretty impressive. Give it a few more years and I think It will be outpowering the best of the modded the B5 RS4s.
We pretty much know all about the 4.2 V8 already, not much more to gain from it.
And it's not all about the 1/4 mile drag times. They don't necessarily represent the real world mid range over taking acceleration. Those drags can be won or lost on how much spin off the line. That doesn't bother me so much as I'm not racing off the lights anymore, but I still want that awesome overtaking ability.

I reckon sakamino should go buy a ford pop and chuck a v8 in it and just do 1/4 mile runs in that!! He could change his user name to mean classic

Ha, no riot.bam_bam wrote:I predict a riot.

I just think it's funny that people make that comment about the 4.2 cars not responding to mods. It's just flat inaccurate. I've got loads of actual performance data to show it.
Dyno numbers as you may or may not know, don't mean fast. I'd much rather test my car at accelerating than at spinning a giant drum or two.
Dyno results prove that ink sticks to paper. That's about it.
Re: awesome set up
I can't think of a better way to test the gains of a power mod than by seeing if it makes the car faster. You may prefer dyno racing. I prefer using the dragstrip or a verified pbox run. More fun too. Take your car to santa pod and make a few passes and I will pay your entry fee if you post your timeslips and don't have fun. I guarantee you'll have a blast. Hell, I will still pay your fee if you go and enjoy it.Silas wrote:+1We pretty much know all about the 4.2 V8 already, not much more to gain from it.
