How do you 'exercise' your car?

Post by gangstarrrrr » Sat Jan 26, 2013 9:50 pm

As per the title, how/when/where do you manage to give it the beans apart from on a track?

I find I can rarely stretch the legs on the S4 - a combination of living in Central London, having a young baby (whose head tends to jerk backwards in his rear facing baby seat if I accelerate too hard) and using the tube for my commute.

For a lot of my driving, if I stick my foot down at the lights, I have to slow down for the next set which are 100 yards along. Consequently, I don't feel like I've really been able to give the car some welly, despite being 1300 miles in.

So how do you guys manage it?

The A20 test strip ;)

Funnily enough I had a good blast out to Romford tonight around the M25 (was empty), good to stretch the old girls legs.

Will have to remember the A20, I'm down there every now and again (with my bullet proof vest).

Problem with mways is that in the S4 it doesn't have much to give, acceleration wise, at those sort of speeds.

I find the S4 loses its legs at around 85-90. Probably a good thing if you want to hammer it on the road as you are beginning to hit goodbye licence territory.

I've recently found that because I've moved office I rarely get to open it up. Does it render the car pointless, not being able to use it to its full potential? Probably.

Once remapped the S4 does definitely not lose its legs at around 85-90 :biggrin3:

I don't think you make a bad point re the licence. I seem to be perpetually paranoid of getting pulled by the cops!

Re pointless? I don't think so, it still puts a smile on my face when I pull away which lasts for about 2.5 seconds till I hit the next set of lights!

Its funny as I get more enjoyment out of the acceleration aspect rather than top end speed, I hardly ever take it over 3 digits.

The A20 makes the perfect place to bed in the pads (at night= minimal traffic)...it also sits on the Met and Kent PS border...so is a bit of a no mans land...

I drove at 71 mph once when I was not paying close attention .. I was shocked and soon fixed my exuberance and slowed to 70mph again :bash:

A329(M) (the winnersh roundabout entry) to "suttons seed" Roundabout is camera less and rarely visited by the BIB
There are two roads officially called "The Straight Mile" out Binfield way.. they are a mile long and they are bullet straight (one is better than the other for road surface)

Same for me. The only time I hit 3 digits will be holding 2nd and 3rd down the slip road to join a dual carriage way or motorway. I then tend to back off to less license worrying speeds.

As I take my car on track and the Ring, I get to push my car to the limits, so have got it out of my system. I just enjoy cruising and hearing that V8 rumble, even in my 6th year of ownership.
