Hi Fellas,

i have taken collection of my first beautiful Rs4 today, She's Avus silver, Yreg, with Sat Nav+ and only 12600miles! unfortunatly no sunroof :(

Thanks to everyone on this site  , i've been snooping around for the last few weeks and you gents certainly know your stuff! thanks for the buyers guide Golich, very helpful.

hoping to attend a few meets in the near future and racking up a load of miles in the beauty!

thanks again,
Lucas

ps if anyone is still looking for an rs4 there are two low milage (18000 and 20000) on the Audi dealers network.

Congrats and Avus Silver is the best colour!

Don't worry about the sunroof.. can't drive around with it open anyway.. unless you want your head to get buffeted.

Here are some pics gents and I have to say after 2 weeks of ownership I still can’t wipe the huge grin off my face :biggrin3: . I’m sure you all know this but WOW it’s fast, I think I’m going to need a radar detector and a whole load of laser diffusers before P.C Plod takes my licence away. It drives great although I haven’t had the chance or balls to push it round the bends yet, I think I’ll leave that for a track with small amounts of Armco and large run off areas.

Unfortunately I do have a few problems that I was hoping some of you guys might be able to help me with.

The gearbox on the car is not great  , I’ve read quite a few threads on the website and expected the gearbox to be poor but after two weeks it can’t be right, it’s very notchy and i struggle to get it into reverse, 1st and 2nd. Does anyone know a good Audi dealership that might have encountered this problem before, I’m back and forth from SW London and Southampton so either or.

I also managed to acquire a puncture courtesy or a screw in the road (bang in the middle of the wheel), its been plugged up but the VW garage (was an Audi dealership on the sat nav!) insisted this was only a temporary repair because of the low profile of the tire. How safe is a plugged tire? Should I replace none, one or both, all four is definatly out of the question! The other tire has 5mm of tread left so the difference between a new tire should not put too much pressure on the diff….is this correct?

Thanks

Hutch :greyrs4:

Had a nail on mine too (rear) - limped into autotyres repaired it in 10 minutes under my watchful eye - especially whilst taking the tyre off... That was a couple of months ago and no problems. Nice pics, how did you get the inside of the wheels so shiny!?
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6

good to know that the plug should suffice. Went to kwik fit first and the rookie manager tried to tell me the sidewall on the tire was damaged and would not fix it, he said he could supply another tire for £180! took it to the VW dealership and they said the side wall was fine and fixed it for £10.
Don't quite know which bit of the wheel you mean, cleaned the whole thing with auto glim. :thumb:

Yes that is a clean car!! Hhmm personally I don't think I could comfortably do 160+mph in my car or even 90mph with a plug. I'm sure they are safe or they would not be allowed to do it but like the dealer said. It is a temp repair. I suppose the depth of tread is relative to what a new tyre will have of that make. I'd be supprised if a +/- 2mm is going to make a difference. But I really don't know. You could just write off the repaired one (or keep it and the other for a spare. Get a spare alloy like I have just done courtesy of Tomson - He has some more to sell) and buy two new tyres.

As for the gearbox I haven't heard of there being an issue with reverse gear - which would suggest it needs checking. With so many problamatic gears it could be just the linkage. But let the warranty take the worry off your shoulders.
