My geography teaching mum (now retired) always says http://www.yr.no/ is the most accurate. Worth a look.

The Met Office have been hopelessly wrong, usually giving out excessive "scare" stories to cover their own backs - largely based on their idiotic belief in AGW (which even they have recently had to admit there is no evidence of warming for over 18 years).spikeyboy101 wrote:My money is on the Met office being right.
IMHO every £1m we have spent buying the Met Office ever bigger super-computers has made their forecasts 1% less accurate.
Anyone else remembver seeing the forecaster on Pebble Mill at One saying it was going to be a bright sunny day in Birmingham while torrential rain was visible through the windows behind her?
My money is on the Met Office being as badly wrong this time as they were when they advised "there is no hurricane coming" in 1987.

We have a 116d on summer tyres, I love it when the snow comes! Arriving everywhere backwards in 3rd gear is much more entertaining than smug calm, controlled progress.
Who needs Alton Towers?
My chocy starfish will be doing 5p / 50p at a rate of 3000rpm on the school run tomorrow morning....better than coffee!

Must admit, I'll admit to feeling slightly deflated at the "end of the world" predictions for the Mayan calendar.....maybe there's a no win...no fee lawyer out there who could take up our case.
I kind of agree with Dave on the global warming thing, although try telling that to a starving polar bear who cannot reach his hunting grounds since the ice just isn't there anymore?
Very sad to see such a noble beast reduced to scavenging.
Personally, and I have no proof of this, but I think that the weather is cyclical, and subject to forces beyond my control.
Having said that, I'm gonna look pretty stupid if my grandchildren ask why we did nothing when the scientists were telling us that global warming was happening.
When I was landscaping my garden, the digger unearthed an ammonite, about 200mm in diameter. Our village is 35metres above current sea levels.
These creatures lived in an equatorial sea at depths of 25-40 metres, ergo at some time in the past, my garden was probably 60-75m under water.
To say that global warming will never happen is a leap of faith too far for me.
Not wishing to appear a party-pooper, but winter tyres are only any good up to a point - they are pretty useless on ice,
They do work very well on fresh & compacted snow, but you cannot defeat the Laws of Physics.
Be careful guys, & don't think that you're some kind of driving God - because when you're up against the elements - you ain't....

It's pretty cool that you found an ammonite - I just brought a couple of small ones back from Morocco. Beautiful things when they're cut.

Everyone's winter tyre experience may vary, but I find that they are significantly better than summers on ice. Far from pretty useless. Black ice though, your fooked whatever you do. Fingers crossed it's a patch so only one or two of your tyres are riding over it. I'd like my other wheels to have winter tyres and maximise their grip.F@tBoyF@t wrote:Not wishing to appear a party-pooper, but winter tyres are only any good up to a point - they are pretty useless on ice,

Ok... point taken. But winter tyres make me feel so smug! If everyone had them it wouldn't be nearly as much funF@tBoyF@t wrote:Be careful guys, & don't think that you're some kind of driving God - because when you're up against the elements - you ain't....

I've fitted winters to my Traffic van and there great, much better on compacted snow than I expected.Ive also got them fitted to my GranTurismo but I've not been out in it this week, I'll give them a spin at the weekend if it doesn't get too bad.

I did toy with the idea of cutting it at work with a slitting saw, as I didn't have the confidence to cut it on a bandsaw because of the sheer size of it....so I've built it into the stone retaining wall.stu wrote:It's pretty cool that you found an ammonite - I just brought a couple of small ones back from Morocco. My grandchildren love it - they're into all the dinosaur - paleontology thing anyway.
