Maybe one day we can have athread that the pair of us don't turn into a Saloon / Avant debate. I guess today is not the day!

Re: Got me some new wheels
Thanks for the advice Mike. I'm running a set of the 5 spoke alloys at the moment. Got another set in the garden which are near mint just need new tyres but keep seeing the rotors on other Audi's driving around and they are really growing on me. Like some others have said on here before I feel the cars look their best with Audi alloys on them and some suit certain models better than others. I do like my current wheels but will need tyres soon so it is like you a case of put new rubber on my good set of wheels or get a new set of wheels and tyres as a package. Plus whatever way I go it will cut into my exhaust budget. Can't wait to lose my stock system. Far too quiet for my liking

I just checked and the speedo will only be out by 1% so yea you should not notice that.

Thanks, sorry should have mentioned I looked at the size percentage already, I thought maybe you use something different for the speedo.sonny wrote:I just checked and the speedo will only be out by 1% so yea you should not notice that.

Anyway Sonny, I'm intrigued now as to why my handling will suffer. Tell me more!
Edit, sorry I've just noticed the 2nd link you provided. Very useful thanks!

I'm not feeling them. Like the size and colour so from a distance they look nice but just don't like them.
Or were you being sarcy?

Re: Got me some new wheels
What was explained to me, is that lower profile tyes are excellent for handling, however when running more than OEM low profile tyres on larger than oem alloys, the low profile rubber has less fless than normal (more slip angle) and also gives the driver a false sence of handling. When cornering its the contact patch and the tyre tred compound that is giving you grip no the side wall. Also more lower the profile tyre then more they can snap out with limit driver feel/feedback. Also another thing is added weight of the wheel and tyre can change the damp/spring rate causing the tyres contact patch to change when riding over bumps etc.
However...Im (like always) are looking into the worst case scenario
btw I could not find the better tyre/wheel calculator that gives a better picture. The percentage shows the speed difference.
Like I said I noticed a massive difference when dropping my profile, but you wont have any worries with that 1%

Re: Got me some new wheels
I'm glad you said that Silas!
Sonny, thanks for the explanation. As I understood it, the lower the profile, the less flex = more tread contact with the road but I hear what you are saying about snapping out and I hadn't even thought about the unsprung mass thing!

Re: Got me some new wheels
I think these will look great on your car, are they 9's or 9.5's ? Couple of things, with no spacers (if they are 9.5 ) you might find those tyres rub on your suspension and I think you will definitely want to lower the car when you put them on the less sidewall you have and the larger wheel always exaggerates the gap. Here is mine on 20"'s but with standard suspension.

Look forward to seeing yours come together
