Hid kits

After being spoiled with the factory xenons on my S4 the normal old fashioned headlights on my works van seem pretty poor. It is an 11 plate Transit Connect. I was toying with the idea of upgrading the bulbs for one of the twin beam hid kits. Has anyone has any experience with these on h4 bulbs. They do a kit now with a seperate halogen bulb for main beam. Would go for these over a set with the moving cover tbh. Thoughts please peeps.

I have them on my Griff and they work really well. But...

The Griff is a very low car, so the chances of causing other road users hassles is pretty much zero (even closer to that as it does pretty much zero miles in the dark!).

The same probably won't be true of a van.

I would imagine you'll also have variable loads in the van, so without adjusters the situation could be worse.

I therefore probably wouldn't.

I have the little adjuster wheel on the dash so can move them up and down manually. The loads I carry are pretty much static in that I have racking down one side and all the big weight is up by the bulkhead so never really need to adjust the beam height. The headlights have always been ok, the same as my old 54 plate connect but am now spending more time down dark country lanes in rural kent so need as much light as I can get. I've used hid kits before but with H1 bulbs so was wondering specifically about the H4 element of them really.

I think mine might be H4s. They work well.

One downside is the driving lights, side lights etc all look very poor by comparison!

Cool. It's only a works van so not fussed about looks. Got to be worth a shot for about £25.

I did a HID conversion on my Nissan Navara. Just had a little google and it seems they use a H4 bulb. Had no problems fitting them (although they cost £200 not £25 so not sure we are talking about the same thing). It was when it was brand new in November 2007 so I dont rememebr too much detail. There was only one bulb so it was the moving type. No trouble other than a blown buld early on but this was changed free of charge.

Also, in all these years I've never had anybody flash me for blinding them and I think my lights are higher than a Transits.

The prices of the hid kits have dropped drastically in the last few years. I bought a couple of H1 kits recently for about £20 a set. One for my mates x-type jag and the other for my missus pug 306 which I fitted angel eye lights too. I have just bought a set for my van which are H4 but instead of a moving plate on the bulb they have a seperate halogen bulb for the main beam. The item number on ebay is: 280924294598

Mine is the connect so doesnt sit much higher than a normal car tbh. The Navara probably is higher than a transit. The Navara is much cooler though

Those arches just swallow up those 22" wheels like they were a set of 15s. Sits a bit lower now I think but still too high. Nice bit of ground clearance for those days when the roads are flooded though.

Still looks good sitting as it does. Has the handling and ride been affected much compared to the original wheels and tyres?

Don't know. I had the wheels sitting in the hallway for weeks waiting for it to be delivered. The moment it turned up I loaded the wheels into the back and drove it round the corner to my local garage to swap the wheels over. Even with that small amount of rubber (profile) the ride is still soft. However, with 285 Toyos T1-Rs it really grips when you whip the clutch up and the trque really snatches it away off the line. Quite impressive for a vehicle of that size and weight. Pretty sure it does the prop shaft no favours as the standard set-up would not manage to put the power down and would spin the wheels; much more forgiving on prop etc.

Well the bulb kit arrived today. Plugged in to test and all work ok. They flash the halogen and switch off the xenon for main beam. Gutted as can't fit them yet as put the van into Ford dealer for service,front brakes and the fact it won't rev past 2000 rpm without bouncing me down the road. Also found out that on some Ford's the fuel filter only gets changed every other service! On a diesel! That's just asking for trouble!

How come you went for the extra halogen bulb over the moving type?
