Got me some new wheels
Got me some new wheels
So I've been toying with the idea of getting new wheels for a while but couldnt find a set I wanted within budget.
Then I noticed how little tread i had left on all 4 tyres and with the weather the way it is I needed some tyres quick smart. A set of 4 F1s for the standard wheels will set me back around £1000. So it made sense that if I was to ever change the wheels now is the time.
So I set about looking for a set and ended up buying a set of 20" RS5 Titan rotors. They are genuine alloys and brand new but come with Dunlop Sport maxx GT tyres instead of the F1s and also are 265/30/20 which means the profile is 6mm higher than a set of 255/30/20. So initially they will look a bit pants as they will have too much rubber (profile wise), but once they wear out and the F1s in the correct size gets fitted they should look much better.
I have 8mm and 10mm spacers fitted and these alloys are the same width as OEM but are ET26 so will stick out a further 3mm. I imagine that should be fine andthe equivalent of 11mm spacers at the front and 13mm at the back. Worse case, the 8mm will go on the back and I'll get some smaller ones for the front.
As soon as they arrive and are fitted I'll post up some piccies.
I wonder if the car will need to be lowered now?

Air bags mike, do it!!!

Re: Got me some new wheels
I'd have to remove my amps to get the equipment into the boot. Already been to Luke to try and find the space but even with 2 smaller tanks strappedto the bottom of the shelf there's still not enough room for my amps / / processors / crossover/ sub and air kit and have any boot left.
Re: Got me some new wheels
looking forward to seeing it, dont do air its just gay, ive been in a car with air bags it was awful, bouncy and rough, do it if you want to make it into a noddy mobile.
Re: Got me some new wheels
I just don't have the space for it anyway. I was worried the handling would suffer a bit too, but I'm just not willing to sacrifice the sounds. The sounds drown out the drone when required too.
Hopefully they'll turn up before the weekend so I can get them on.
Looking at photos of it wi the spacers added it looks like I can cope with a 265 tyre and an extra 3mm of offset as the arches sit higher than the wheels at the moment. Too much weight in the boot and it might be a different story.

Re: Got me some new wheels
ah good, the saloon grey one looks fantastic on the rs6 rims, someone posted the pic a while back
Re: Got me some new wheels
I know a lot of people on here think they are brilliant but I just don't like the RS6 wheels at all.
To be honest, I've never really liked the rotors either. The wife had them on her S3 and I thought they looked pants (she did too and changed them), but in a 20x9 with the more aggressive offset they become a little concave and I think that's what's won me over.

Re: Got me some new wheels
Bugger, it just occurred to me that I will need to get the valves and TPMS off my old wheels the get the new tyres removed from the new wheels to fit them, then refit and balance again. Arse.

Re: Got me some new wheels
Yeah, I was thinking about that. How do you turn it off? DIS or VCDS?
Re: Got me some new wheels
Make sure to post pictures asap!
I think you will definitely need to go lower with 20s.

Re: Got me some new wheels
Yeah its funny that, I'd have thought that lowering would be more necessary with standard wheels but strangely the RS4 seems to need lowering once you put bigger wheels on it.
The fact I have 265/30s means it is a quarter inch (6mm) bigger so that might help to fill the gap slightly. Swithcing to 255/30s will make the gap bigger (contrary to popular belief, the profile '30' is not a measurement but a ratio, so a 255/30 is a lower profile than a 265/30).
As soon as the wheels turn up, the car will be in the garage on the jacks and wheels swapped over. I'll try and diasble the TPMS before hand so I'm ready to go, and the swap the valves over another time (or pick up a 2nd set cheaply).
My garage is filling up with spare wheels now. I have a set of OEM Navara wheels and tyres (have delivery miles on them only), a set S3 wheels and tyres (only done about 1500 miles before the wife swapped them a couple of weeks ago, and a set of RS4 rims soon too.

As soon as I have them in my possession, I will use abide by rule 1.bam_bam wrote:Rule 1.
I tried to post pictures of the wheels but they are a java image and i can't copy them on my ipad. I'll try on my PC when I get home.
