Strongly Considering S4 Avant (2003)

Post by JampoTT » Mon Sep 27, 2004 6:21 pm

Guys,

I'm wondering if anyone can help me...

I've had a TT Roadster, which I part exed last Dec for a 350z, which I've really really enjoyed... but times change, and I need something bigger, but don't want to lose the "grunt" I get from a torquey powerful engine...

Today I went to Wayside in MK and test drove a 2003 S4 Avant - Nogaro blue with blue/black interior. 13k miles (not even run in!) and had the interior illumination, heated mirror / washer jets, Symphony 6CD and BOSE as options (nowt else, I don't think...)

The drive pretty much sold it to me - and the V8 put a real smile on my face. The ride was similar to the Z (much better than the TTR) and the whole package looks a winner for me...

BUT.

I'm having

a) problems with insurance
b) question marks about price

a) is a tricky one - I have a claim pending, so currently have 0 NCB and 6 points. My current insurers will add the S4 instead of the Z for about £150 til December (not bad at all) but I guess I'm going to be fleeced for renewal unless I can get the claim reversed... but can anyone recommend an S4 friendly insurer I can talk to?

b) is trickier. I've a feeling the Z will have depreciated more than I was hoping over the last year. 21k miles won't have helped, and I wasn't planning on changing it so soon - so I'm a bit concerned that buying what is now the "old" shape S4 won't be a bright idea either...

So... what sort of price should I be paying for an 03 S4 Avant in good condition with average mileage?

Hello Tim, welcome to 246! There is a thread of S and RS friendly insurers here if that helps. Or send a PM to Jon who posts here (username is simply "Jon") as he's an insurance broker, who just happens to drive an RS6+, so maybe he can help or advise.

Steve
You never really learn to swear until you learn to drive.

RS4 - as standard as the day it was born

Cheers Steve :)

For your next trick, do you know anyone who wants to buy a 350z?

Wayside offered a terrible part ex. There was a deal to be made, perhaps today or perhaps later this week when I finalise the purchase of my new house (I'm part exing the old HOUSE too!!! lol) and the guy completely missed the opportunity...

S4 was up for £35k. I don't think its worth more than £31-£32k plus a fair part ex for the 350z. We didn't even get TALKING about the price for the S4 - he had to call me to give me the part ex price on the Z, and I was shocked - but he didn't offer to try and deal... *sigh*
