Agreed. You'd kick yourself if you compromised on spec / colour, only for your dream spec car to crop up a week later - sods law for less money! I'd waited a long time for my S4, and whilst I really wanted a Nogaro, when 'mine' came up, I knew it was the right one. I'm glad I didn't buy any of the ones I'd considered previously - the closest I got was a base-spec high-miler privately which turned out to be stolen recovered even though I'd HPId it!

As mentioned in previous threads, the B6 B7 had most stuff standard, and Nav could be retro fitted, whereas the B8 has gone back to having more options, and Nav cannot be retrofitted. Super Sports seats, sport diff, ADS, HD Nav would probably be the four essentials for me. 19s can be retrofitted, hence I wouldn't ignore cars on 18s but with all the other toys.

I was in a fortunate situation though where I had nothing to sell, makes things simpler. Which way you want to sell the M3 is something to consider in advance in case the right S4 appears and you want to snap it up Shagga!

You're right Ian.

If I do get rid of the M it will be for around the £29k mark and I don't really want to put much more cash towards another car. Driving it home tonight I thought to myself 'WTF am I thinking of - this is an awesome car'. I think having Audis's for the 14 years previous is proving a hard habit to kick.
If I see something and get a good p/x offer from a dealer I'll consider it but very happy with the M...it's just not an Audi.

M3 did nothing for me, it only ever felt special when being exploited; awesome noise mind.

BMW have finally updated the interiors with the current generations but the exteriors have are starting to loose any individuality.

I was looking at B8 S4s before I got my RS6 after getting rid of my RS4.

There's some awesome looking ones on the forums in the states.
Dropped with nice wheels and exhausts.

As already said the power gains make the B8 RS4 look stupid!! Especially in the torque department.

Of course doesn't sound as good as a V8 but quicker.

Makes you wonder what Audi were thinking of sticking with the V8??

I would imagine Audi took stock S4 vs stock RS4 and used a V8 for the enthusiasts.

Shane - try a track day with tuition - that will show how capable the E92 is. I recently did a driver development day with all day tuition, guy who races in the Porsche Carrera Cup - it was wet but the car was superb with loads of grip and traction, keep it smooth is the key, although I did have new rear tyres on (contis). I was in love with the car after that.

Otherwise I dont think going to a S4 from a M3 would do it for me personally - RS5 maybe but still pricey..

good luck with whatever you do.

Cheers

Would an air filter do anything to the warranty? Think a remap would invalidate the drivetrain warranty?

Thanks Dunc,
Between cars and bikes I've done nearly 90 track days - some with tuition and they are a fantastic way to learn both the cars and your own abilities. I may do a couple in March with the 92 but not sure yet.

I know what your saying about the S4 and I don't like the RS5 - too barge like for me. I won't go C63 so IF I change I have no idea what too. I can remember a thread on the B7 forum which was something like 'What would you have if you didn't have a B7 RS4' and all of the current owners at the time, including me, were stuck. The B7 is a great car and the best I've owned. I will say that every time I visit the B7 forum now though it just seems to be filling up with threads about faults and issues which I suppose is expected due to the age. That is putting me off going back there.

I wouldn't mind that Bam as they are pretty cheap to buy now. B7's are still going for good money and may have some very expensive issues to fix as we all know. Throw in a polish/port etc and I'll be looking at £30k ish for a car two years older than I have and higher mileage.

I may just become a policeman.

I'm findin myself toying with a B8 just now as well Shane the gains with simple mods look good but I'm just worried it'll never be like my old B7. In fact I don't think any car will ever match that car, I've had a C63 I've had an M3 so its a case of what next? Think ill bite the bullet and play around in an S for a bit and see what it's like, similar to you I'd be looking to spend 25-30k tops there's not many about at that money that I fancy bough other than a black avant that looks decent

sure - website is here:

http://www.driverdp.com/

its a day at the Prodrive circuit so you do a handling circuit (not high speed say no more than 3rd gear in a m3), wet straight road where you make the car oversteer in the wet and bascially keep it going all the way whilst keeping control, wet roundabout (didnt like that) and the tower circuit which is basically like doing a trackday.

you get paired up so you arent driving constantly all day as whilst one is with the isntructor in their car, you are waiting and then its your turn in your car - thats fine though. Ben Barker is the Australian F3 champ and races in Porsche Cup - its his mum who runs the course so he is one of the instructors.

When i went in November there was a S2000, Maserati, C63 and two e46 M3s then there are other people on the circuits who are with other organzations receving tuition too.

Shane - why wont you go C63? M3 is better most likely in handling (apparently) but I really, really like the sound of the C63 - plus its the quickest of the bunch out of RS4, M3 or C63...

I did look at a couple Dunc but I think I just don't like the look of Merc's in general. My wife is on her 3rd (not C63 AMG) and I've hated every one. Not sure what it is - don't like the looks, interior etc etc.

They do sound phenomenal.
