RS4 B8 and Blackberry 9900

Post by Orbtar » Fri Dec 28, 2012 11:37 pm

New RS4 arrived on Christmas Eve, I'm very pleased with it so far apart from the fact that it doesn't let my Blackberry work properly. Is this common with the MMI system?
Thanks in advance.

It says something like 'connecting by SAP' and then disables the phone. I had similar problems a couple of years back with a Porsche, it would allow the phone to work but would stop all the data functions.

I have an iPhone 5 which works fine in the car but my main phone is the Blackberry which is far better for work.

I think this comes down to the fact that Blackberry's are generally crap, I hate mine!

Still can't be long before they go down the swanny so that will sort things.

Check the RS6 forum, folk their had to fiddle to get their BB's to work.

I've had them for about 10 years now and every one has been utter <beep>. It'd have to go a long way to make a mark on that impression.

Their next OS is make or break.

Mmm. Will have to wait and see whether I get another one....probably 12 months away from the next round of upgrades at work.

It's have to be a serious leap to get close to the original iPhone let alone anything more recent!

Actually no - it sounds like the OP "Orbtar" must have a car with "Mobile telephone prep (high) with Audi Connect." Audi Connect can use a compatible mobile handset's SIM Access Profile (SAP) to access online content. It's awesome and gives Google Earth mapping to the Nav, weather, local point of interest similar to Wiki, and travel info, and during 2013 new cars built with it will get an enhanced version giving twitter and facebook integration along with flight info and photo geotagging based Nav.

Sadly an iPhone does not have SAP built in - not even the new iPhone 5.

However a Blackberry and most Android phones do have this "SAP".

That being said I've sometimes had problems though with customers having problems making connect work where their Blackberry is provided to them by their employer. This is because of a device on the Blackberry data system called "Blackberry Enterprise Server" (or BES for short). With BES the employer gets to control how much internet / streaming / e-mail access the user gets. I feel it's likely a BES issue you've got and if this is the case it's your employer who holds the key to making this part work.

Back to the iPhone - the iPhone and most Android phones CAN work an app called "Audi Connect Music Stream" which is available to download on the iTunes app store and the Google App store - this gives access to your music collection and internet radio stations without an AMI cable being attached. It's VERY good.

However to the best of my knowledge the Blackberry cannot work this app.

Hope this helps.

I think your right about BES thats causing the OPs problem its administrator controlled.Being an all apple man that "Audi Connect Music Stream" app looks wicked but can only be used for cars with nav plus including bluetooth car phone online from 11/2011.

Have just checked the spec list, it does have Bluetooth phone prep high and MMI navigation plus if that makes any difference. We don't use BES for our e-mail system, just a standard Microsoft Exchange system. Will speak to the dealer and see if they can suggest anything as it is a real pain for the full functions of the Blackberry not to work, it is a superb phone, far better for heavy e-mail use than an iPhone. Thanks for your help so far.
