Re: 24hr test - with pics and report
Great writeup Graeme. Your report answered most of my questions and it is especially nice to know that the diff grind is gone. I had the B7 and a R8 now and they both grind quite badly when cold. Also nice to know is the ride is comfortable as opposed to most test reports. It will be my daily drive so comfort is important.

Re: 24hr test - with pics and report
One thing I will add, Im not sold on that exhaust, does the sport exhaust option look the same viewed from rear). I know a lot of cars these days have "fake" exhaust tips but a car like the RS4 should not have them imo
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
Re: 24hr test - with pics and report
Sport exhaust is exactly the same but has black exhaust rings instead of the chrome ones.
Can i ask why you are upgrading to the B8RS4, is it purely that your B7 is getting on abit now as going by the write up the difference seems maginal

awesome write up, many thanks
Re: 24hr test - with pics and report
Great write up,it looks stunning even when filthy, those wheels are the ones to have! The write up regarding drive is very much the same as my experiance in an RS5,my own b7 has more power than stock so i hankered after getting back in mine even more so.The handling of the b7 was what got me into it and it seems the new has gone backwards a tad in this department and no progression in the power department either
,il stil get one though but have to make it right myself with subtle mods

Re: 24hr test - with pics and report
To me the new RS4 looks so much better than the B7 in your last picture. I think the B7 is starting to show it's age and I never liked the front lights. The B5 is more timeless IMHO.
Looks great in the grey, really shows off the arches.
Thanks for sharing.

Point taken, but no V8 howl and cool arches. S4 is nice car, but just a tad too normal maybe?D_K wrote:S4 Black Edition + MRC = 430PS

The supercharged torque is very nice though
I wonder if MRC do a supercharger kit for the b8 RS4 ? Mmmmmm....

Re: 24hr test - with pics and report
Great write up Graeme - nice little road trip too!
My road run and 6 laps of the Millbrook alpine course led to me pretty much exactly the same conclusion - great car but I'd pass on the dynamic steering, and the B8 media controls aren't the most user friendly, but I guess it's a case of getting used to them
Question though - you say that the 'box really does hold gears in manual mode? - my experience of all DC boxes up to now (including Porsche PDKs) is that they will override the manually selected gear if taken to the limiter, and will also kick down in manaul if the pedal's mashed right into the carpet. But I think I'd read somewhere that the RS3 will genuinely hold gears too, so just wondering if this is really the case, because if so, it's quite a departure from DC 'box convention. Interested to hear your thoughts?

It does hold the gears....
Re: 24hr test - with pics and report
Yep you can bounce the RS3 off the limiter in manual and it won't change, if you drop your speed it will select a lower gear e.g. 1st gear if you slow right down but I guess that's to be expected.
