ESP Light

Post by nij » Thu Dec 13, 2012 8:24 pm

My ESP light has come on permanently since last night, does anyone know what it might be?

I haven't had anything done to the car and I haven't had time to do a scan yet. Any ideas?

Cheers

Could be a faulty ABS wheel speed sensor, sensor ring, ESP sensors, steering angle sensor, control unit...

Lots of possibles.

Colour is it?

It's lit up amber.

I'll try to do a scan tomorrow to see if it has thrown any fault codes.

Mine came on and stayed on some time back, driving and braking felt normal, turned out to be stuck brake light sensor, check if your lights are stuck on, if so could be same, cheap fix, sub £100 I think

maf gives load info for the esp. so if not working correct will cause esp, but should also be possibly causing a check engine light.

I've cleared the fault codes and the ESP light is now off, but I haven't had a chance to drive the car yet.

Is the MAF Sensor on its way out and need replacing?

Replaced my air mass sensor a while back now, it made the car feel much more responsive, has your car done many miles?

ESP Light

Post by The_Coat » Sat Dec 15, 2012 6:20 pm

I had the ESP and traction light come on mine a month or so ago but turning the car off and on again it's been fine since.

I was driving in really heavy rain on the M25 for about an or so not sure if water got where it shouldn't have.

Was advised on here it could be the MAF

Thanks

Had a quick run with my car and everything seems fine, with no warning ESP light.

Prior to the ESP light coming on, I did notice the engine wasn't running as smooth as normal and the gear change was a bit snappy. My car has done 32k miles and I think replacing the MAF Sensor is straight forward. Now I just wanted to know if it's worth replacing and how much is it for a new MAF Sensor.
