Opinions on spec'ing new car
Re: Opinions on spec'ing new car
Here's a question thats been bugging me. If you order one with the sports pack as well as the V spokes and paid for both then would it not be reasonable to expect to have a car delivered with the V spokes on the car and 4 rotor arm alloys in the boot? After all, you have paid for two alloy wheel upgrades in my view. If I was looking to order one, and was extremely tempted after the drive at Millbrook and have resisted temptation so far, then I would definately want the V spokes at no extra cost on the sports pack upgrade. I do agree that this may have more to do with the relationship with the dealer though. Personally, I think this is a bit of a rip off myself

Not only that, I'd expect the 2nd set to be tyred & balanced too.RSphantom wrote:Here's a question thats been bugging me. This is what I don't get, fine it's a mild irritation...but hardly something to fret over. A post in the classifieds or on the bay & no doubt you'll receive an offer in no time for your brand new, redundant rotors. Money recovered...job done.

TBH it's probably a good starting point for negotiation a discount.RSphantom wrote:Here's a question thats been bugging me. Would a dealer really lose a sale over the alloys? I'm not sure.
Thing is all they have to do is say on the pricing that if ordered with the sport pack the V spoke are £200 premium. It's small enough that people wouldn't really challenge it and the V spokes are more expensive anyway. It takes a huge lever away from the customer.
A good example of this is selling houses at or near a stamp duty threshold. Try selling a house thats' really worth say 260k - you either have to take the hit and sell for 250k or try to price it way above the limit at 275k+ but this still leaves the buyer with more bargining power and will still try to knock the price down to the 250 region. What I've done in the past is just advertise the property at 275k with stamp duty paid. Makes it attractive as they think they've already go a deal but they can't negotiate as much. So far all the houses done this ended up selling for 270k ish which I think is more even considering the stamp duty liability than I would have got conventionally (and they sold very quickly).
Re: Opinions on spec'ing new car
I think 535boy has managed to opt for sport pack with V spokes at no extra cost, but I'm sure he'll be along to confirm at some point. I think Audi are taking the rise with this, they're not alone in bundling options but this seems an unfair tactic as surely most RS4 owners will want V spokes?
Very interesting house buying analogy adsgreen, well done.

Re: Opinions on spec'ing new car
I think the issue was that the other non v spoke wheels are bulk purchased so the unit cost is low - this is where a moajority of the "discount" from the pack comes in.
However with the V spoke they are not standard out of the audi parts bin so hence why they are not part of the pack.
Shortsighted if you ask me.

Re: Opinions on spec'ing new car
That's the answer audi UK gave me as well... I think at a minimum they should charge something between 0 and the 1,250 (or whatever the number is) if someone opts for the sports package

I agree with all of the above including your house purchase analogy, but the way I look at it is if you spec the car without the sports pack and upgrade to V spokes they cost the same as if you spec the sports pack and upgrade to V spokes. I do understand that if you price up the individual parts of the sports pack without the rotors and add the V spokes it is still more expensive. However, in my view then it should be that you add the sports pack and if you want the V spokes then there should be an additional further upgrade cost but not the same as if you didn't add the sports pack. I still stand by the fact that if you upgrade the wheels to V spokes and add the sports pack you have paid for two sets of wheels and I would want both sets. As mentioned previously you could flog the rotors on ebay to recoup the cost.

No I don't think you have bought 2 sets of wheels and tyres, you have bought an upgrade.RSphantom wrote:adsgreen wrote:I think the issue was that the other non v spoke wheels are bulk purchased so the unit cost is low - this is where a moajority of the "discount" from the pack comes in.

The tyres alone are probably what the upgrade cost is excluding the wheels so why would you get both?

Re: Opinions on spec'ing new car
Well if you go with the upgrade opinion then it still doesn't make sense.
Upgrade from standard 19" rims to V spokes without sports pack = £1,350
Upgrade from 20" rotor titanium rims to V spokes with sports pack = £1,350
Upgrade from 20" rotor titanium rims to V spokes without sports pack = Free (you already paid £1,350 for the rotors)
I'm not trying be difficult around this I just feel that the upgrade cost of the V spokes if any should be reduced to say a maximum of £600 if you have already selected the sports package. That way it kinda justify's itself.
After seeing the cars at Millbrook anybody ordering one or ordered one would I think always go for the V spokes as they look the dogs. So this is probably clever planning from Audi as they know most people will cough up the extra for the wheels.
