Front Brake Discs

Post by P_G » Sun Dec 02, 2012 1:43 pm

Just curious but when I changed over wheels yesterday I couldn't help but notice that on the front discs some of the holes aren't drilled through? They are almost like dimples and look like they are clogged up with brake dust but take a hole punch to them and you find they are solid. Is everyone else's discs like this? Odd deisgn if so.

Hi P_G

I believe the theory behind "dimpled" discs is that they will not suffer from fracture/cracking in extreme use situations.

It is very unusual to find fully drilled and dimpled on the same disc however.

Are you sure it was a real dimple and you hadn't been looking under the influence again :drink: ..............

I thank you

I'll take pics tomorrow if the weather is OK but I'm not dreaming and haven't had a drink in at least a week.... :nodder:

Hi P_G

I take it all back after seeing them yesterday. However it is only the outer holes that are dimpled, I still think it will be to prevent surface cracking.

Probably but very unusual like you said yesterday to see both on the same disc.
