Anyone able to show me their B7 RS4?
Anyone able to show me their B7 RS4?
Hello,
I'm thinking about buying an RS4 saloon and wondered if anyone would be prepared to let me have a look round their car (saloon or avant) and take me for a spin?
A bit about where I'm coming from - I currently own a BMW 335D coupe, but it's time for a change. I'm starting a new job in January, which will cut my mileage from 18k to 8k a year. This means that I can afford to run a car that's more for pleasure than for economy. My main criteria are a V8 engine, can carry my wife and 4 year old daughter and not American. Considered a Jaguar XK, but can't fit us all in comfortably. Ruled out a Maserati 4200GT due to reputation for eye watering maintenance bills and ruled out Aston DB7 as it's too old. Not interested in BMW M3 as I've spent the last 6 years looking at the inside of various BMWs. This has now lead me to the RS4.
I don't really want to turn up at a garage or a private sale and be unfamiliar with the car, so I wondered if someone would let me have a look around theirs to give me a feel for the car. I'm NOT asking to drive it. There's nothing like an impartial, informed view from someone who knows what they're talking about through experience.
I'm based in Tewkesbury, so can get to Bristol or Birmingham in an hour. If anyone would be kind enough to let me have a look on Saturday 1st Dec, I'd be very grateful.
Cheers,
Bryan

I wouldn't limit yourself to viewing just saloons - avant is identical bar the obviously different boot arrangement.

If I came up to Aberdeen, I could kill two birds with one stone and buy Euan's (see classified ad by StandFreeRS4). Looks the business. I need a look around some closer to home to see if its the right car for me before going all that distance.
Re: Anyone able to show me their B7 RS4?
I live in northants if thats any good, Might even sell it to you if your lucky, Your more than welcome to come and have a look.
Re: Anyone able to show me their B7 RS4?
Probably a 4+ hour round trip, so a bit far for just a look, but thanks for the offer. If you were thinking of selling yours, send me a PM with the spec. Particularly interested if you'd take a BMW 335D + cash in p/x as that would speed things up a lot!

Re: Anyone able to show me their B7 RS4?
So, two and a half years on, I'm back at square one - this itch has not gone away.
Since my last request, the BMW 335D went and I bought an Audi S5, which I loved, but when child number two came along, it had to go. There is technically enough room in the back, but it was just too much hassle. I sold that and bought an Alpina B3 Bi-Turbo, which has also been great, but I simply can not get along with the auto box. If this is as good as autos get, I'm going to admit defeat and stick with manuals.
So back to the original criteria from my last post of naturally aspirated, manual petrol V8 and the RS4 is the only realistic choice.
Would be great if someone could show me their car and also explain how to spot the known problems such as DRC failure, where to locate the oil cooler, how to check the flaps on the exhaust when the sport button is pressed. There's nothing like experience of an honest enthusiast's car when looking at one for sale.
I'm based in Tewkesbury, so can get to Bristol or Birmingham in an hour. May be able to travel a bit further. If anyone would be kind enough to let me have a look at theirs, I'd be very grateful. Not that I will NOT be asking to drive it.

Bryan

Re: Anyone able to show me their B7 RS4?
We had a midlands meet (Coventry) a few weeks ago. I will be planning another some time in March so if you come to that you will have a good selection to look over

Re: Anyone able to show me their B7 RS4?
I've owned a 335d and an S5 and right now I have the RS4. The RS4 is by far the best car I have owned so far, the practicality and usability of it make it a pretty hard car to beat for the money. You are more than welcome to come and have a look around my one but I'm in Hertfordshire so it might be a bit out your way. My advice though would be, get one, you'll love it!
