I like the sound of bomb proof! That's the one worry with buying a 10 year old motor, what's going to go wrong with it. Thanks for the suggestion and I will take a look to see what's around. Also been looking at TDI Golf's which is pretty much the same tech but more of them available I guess.
Holding off till the new year when we get into the new house as I need to keep all my cash available for the eneviatable problem with the pad as soon as we more in

Car shopping will then start

SEAT Ibiza 1.4TDi. Cheap to buy, the 1.4 three pot diesel is even more indestructable than the 1.9 diesel, cheap to run, 55+mpg all day long, cheap to tax and insure and hold value pretty well. Stu has my old Ibiza and think it is working out for him too. Sailed through its MOT at 8 years old and 60k miles.
If you want the ultimate then A2 1.4TDi would be the best in terms of economy vs. retaning its vaalue, a bit more to buy but the residuals on a car that is anywhere between 8 and 11 years old is astonishing.

Why is the A2 so freaky in following and value retention?

+1 but too expensive to manufacture, which probably accounts for their lack of numbers, and that accounts for the 2nd hand prices?

A2 not a bad idea to be honest. Nice little car for just going back and forth to the office with superb fuel

Looking like £3K for a 2000 model so I might go and have a test drive.
Ibiza a good little car also but I quite like that A2 now

Got to say the A2 styling is an acquired taste that I don’t share with some of you guys.
I assumed the relative rarity was due to the hideous looks?

The looks have grown on me to be honest so I'm over that hurdle. Apart from age what's the problem with Pre 2004 models Dave? Was there a facelift 2004 or just the 1.6FSI is much better than the 1.4 TDI?

Would you rather be blind or have no arms and legs?
I love drag racing and track racing. I have had many fast cars and below is a short list of the ones most memorable.
MR2 Turbo REV2 (standard) > MR2 Turbo REV1 300HP> MR2 Turbo REV3 450HP (Nick Name Biscuit tin) > Celica GT4 ST205 WRC 300HP > R32 GTR 425HP > Honda Integra DC2 (standard) > EVO GSR 300HP > R32 GTR 450HP
Now on the hunt for an RS6

Blind, I'm heading that way with the amount I masturbate, but by that rationale, having no arms could save me going blind... ahhh, 1st world problems again.

I'd hire Nigella Lawson to watch porn and explain what's happening. Then I'd sell the recordings as porn audio books. I'd make a mint from blind men world-wide. I'd be known as the "0/20 Knuckle-shuffler from Downunder".
No matter where you go, there you are.
