Wipers

Post by P_G » Wed Nov 21, 2012 9:56 pm

Just one to put out there given the crap weather, I have noticed that when on auto wipers the passenger side wiper will stop at the bottom of the screen and will then on occassion move down again by an cm which is very disconcerting when driving and you can see it out the corner of your eye. Anyone else experienced this?

Is it? If it is designed to do this fair enough but wasn't something on the RS4 so that's why its wierd.

It is.

P_G - the B7 doesn't have this feature.

This behaviour is by design and you'll find the description in the B8 S4 manual. It's to avoid parking the wipers the same way all the time, thereby relieving the blade of the fatigue of parking in the same position all the time during intermittent wiping. It goes all the way down on dry days though.

its by design, my R32 used to do it, when in auto mode the passenger blade is slightly raised, put it in manual mode and it will go fully down
The Hedgehog, creator of RS4.org, back in of the RS fold yet again, third time lucky :)

By design same thing happens on the S4.Service position is straight up so the wiper arms can be hinged foreward without hitting the bonnet, good to use it when washing the car.

Most models do it now.

Service Position is something different, as mentioned above.

What he said.

The A3 new product in 2003 had this new "digital wiper motor" system whereby the wipers will sometimes "adjust" themselves for no immediately apparent reason to aleviate the blade perishing in the same shape.

In 2003 it also left some owners in the lurch when the motor packed up completely! Luckily this was an isolated problem - no issues since and as you rightly say the system is now on nearly every Audi new product launched since then.
