So.................

Post by funkygibbo » Wed Nov 21, 2012 12:38 pm

Took my car in for it's first service on Monday morning, I won't name the dealer at the moment because so far they have been ok'ish.

I told the servicing dept on the phone that their were a few minor issues, squeaking breaks, rattle from the passengers door and one of the centre air vents couldn't be turned off!! I also asked them to check for any recalls on the car as I was aware of some issues.

So took the car around 10.00 a.m to the garage met the receptionist, who asked me to take a seat in the 'lounge' and do I want coffee, neither of which I wanted to do as I had someone waiting to take me back to work (didn't bother with courtesy car as over a 2 week wait).

Anyway after half an hour and a moan to the receptionist I see a service adviser, who runs through with me everything what I told them on the phone. I also asked him about any recalls..................errrrrr, "oh yeah a vent needs replacing that's maybe what causing your heater not to work properly" :FIREdevil: :audibash: . If this is Audi's idea of customer service it's SH!T!!!

The 'service advisor' man :knob: checked if I was in urgent need of the car back, was I happy for it to be kept overnight? As it happens I did not need the car the following day so said if necessary they could keep it (my thinking was that I would rather they had the car longer rather than rushing to get it finished).

Anyway I digress, the main reason for the post is the garage has now had my car for over 48 hours, in fairness thay told me the would need the car over Monday night.

I rang the garage around 3.00 on Tuesday to find out what was happening, as I wanted to collect my car after a bit of telephone ping pong I spoke to my 'advisor' who told me there was a problem with an Audi software download which had stopped half way through the 'patch' and now they can't do anything with the car, but don' worry Audi are very quick to sort out these sorts of problems! When pushed the advisor did not have any further information :audibash: .

Anyone else heard of this happening? Should I be worried? What was this patch?

Regards

Funky

It'll be the oil pump related tweak to eliminate start up rattle. It's not normally good news if a flash falls in a heap half way through, much like updating the firmware on your PC. Worse case new ECU I guess.

Chivvy them up today, if they can't give you dates, ask for a car and also get Audi UK involved.

Thanks doodlebug

I have read something about the oil pump update, funny when I asked about updates he only mentioned the front air vent, should be fun seeing
him :knob: explain why this was being carried out :audibash: .

I have put the phone down about 20 minutes ago, he was busy and the girls said he would ring as soon as he was free. I am STILL awaiting the return call.

I don't believe there's an actual fix for the squeaky brakes as yet. Just a case of having it noted at the moment.

Just to update, collected a courtesy car yesterday afternoon as this now seems to be a more serious problem than first thought. I spoke to the service advisor :knob: who told me they are liaising with Audi how to proceed and he would update me later in the day.

So having not received a call from :knob: yesterday I waited till mid morning to give :knob: an opportunity to ring me but by 10.30 the red mist was starting to come down so rung :knob: , I gave :knob: ample chance to apologise for not ringing me but it was not forthcoming, so gave :knob: both barrels which seemed to finally make the penny drop that I was NOT happy and at the very least deserved an apology, which I finally did receive several times.

Anyway it now transpires from my conversation that Audi UK are unable to resolve this problem and that they are dealing with Audi directly in Germany! and until they get more information from Germany they will not do anything with the car for fear of doing further harm :FIREdevil: .

When I asked when this was going to get resolved, :knob: said he wasn't sure which is why he had sorted me out with a loan car :knob: . When I pointed out to :knob: I had only gone in for a service and we are now into the 4th day with no sign of a resolution and that I hadn't recently parted with the best part of £40k to drive around in an <beep>!ng A3 TDi I think :knob: got the message that slightly going out of his way  to get me a car was not cutting the mustard.

He has promised to ring me later today to give me an upadate, even if the update is that there is no update :audibash:

Anyway I feel a bit better getting that  off my chest

I've been invited to Audi UK and been asked to bring a forum member along... You seem like a prime candidate, so I might be in touch :)

Sorry to hear that!

Sounds like when my cylinder head went, they were always waiting on Germany to get back to them, only took 4 weeks to sort, hopefully you get it back soon

New ECU methinks all the way from the Fatherland. Maybe you could ask them to drop it off at MTM on it's way to the UK to have it 'enhanced' FOC and still in warranty?

Joking aside, best of luck with this. :beerchug:

Yep, I reckon that ECU is toast.

Same thing happened to me......

Software update/upgrade froze mid process. I thought it had detected the remap but said nothing. Anyway - they sent the error code to Germany, who sent back the code to allow the upgrade to complete and all was well.

Cheers
