Y962 Y9F - anyone know this car?

Anyone know this car? Spec is:

32,000 miles
Avus Silver
Black Leather / Carbon
Sunroof
BOSE
Sat-Nav (not +, anyone know the difference?)
FASH
Tracker
6 owners!!! Is this a bad sign?

Just had 40K mile service including cambelts after owner noticed a whirring sound at the front of the car which turned out to be the timing pulley. Had oil / filter changed every 2000 miles.

Asking for £31K. Good spec and price unless anyone has any other comments.

Sounds like that car is doing the rounds

2 owners maybe 3 but 6!

Apparently there is a black RS4 here in Sydney that was written off and rebuilt... it also does the rounds.

Seems rebuilding and selling writeoffs, particularly at auction is not uncommon practice in prestige vehicles.

Not to say this RS4 you mention is an example, but worth being aware of the possibility.

Spoke to the owner and he seemed to be extremely sound.

To clarify the 6 owners, apparently the car was registered first to dealer and then 3 of the owners were in the same family. Not sure what kind of difference this makes?

You could say (if you treat the 3 familial owners as 1) that he is the 3rd owner

Anyone care to comment?

IIRC Sat Nav + is the 5" monitor. Standard sat nav gives directions from the instrument cluster.

Seems a bit weird passing to 3 members of the family. However its does happen I suppose as I had a Golf Gti insured under my Dads name (this was about 10 years ago) for a while and then insured under my name; it was always 'my car'

I also think it's a bit weird. Surely if you wanted additional drivers on the car from your family you would just add them to the insurance? There wouldn't be a need to change the registered owner of the car on the V5 (which is what I am assuming has happened here?!)

Or do you have to be the registered keeper of the car to be the the principal insurer of the vehicle (i.e. car is under your name).

Any insurance / registration gurus out there?

Recently bought one with 29000 miles, without sat Nav but leather and sunroof - excellent condition from main Dealer Smith Knight Fay, whom I know have a very good reputation within Audi - the car has been with them since new and had 3 owners - Ive been told independently that this is not something to worry about as cars like this tend to be toys for those with plenty of cash (mine belonged to pro cricketer) and they swap around quite a bit. 6 owners may be a little high though? I paid 30k, with 12months Audi warranty - so if I were you I'd be looking at less than 31k without an Audi warranty.

Mine's had a few owners...I spoke to the last one (a doctor) - he'd sold it because he didn't think he was using the performance and it was a waste....traded it for a 1.9tdi....

I'd judge it on the condition of the car and usual things, and wouldn't be put off too much by the number of owners...mine was in better condition than a few I'd looked at that probably had fewer owners.

When Insuring a car the policy holder should be the regestered keeper.
If you are with a reasonable insurer and get advice on the matter it is possable to write a letter- Clearly passing insurability for a reasonable period 1 year or so to another party and stating the car is being loaned. This can be presented to the insurer and it may well be acceptable.

The basic point is that the laws of insurability must be present when this type of general insurance is being proposed ( the proposer can prove they would suffer a loss).

Why am I always on about insurance!. RS4's are nice cars especially Dave's which is very nice,

Thanks Gordon! You don't perhaps work within the legal profession at all?

I guess it makes sense that if the car was being passed between people in a family and they didn't want to be the policy holder / or even on the insurance, then they would transfer the registered ownership as well.

Will clarify with the seller! This is a great site,

Not absolutely necessary, but it is certainly practical for the registered owner to be the primary insured party.

Recently had quotes to insure my son for taking one of mum's cars to Uni. If the ownership remains in my wife's name, the best quote we got was £5000+!
If we transferred ownership to my son, then the best quote dropped to £1250.

Okay, need some advice guys. I know you're good for it!!

Have had the car inspected by QST and all seems to be in good order. Kim picked up on the fact that it needed new front pads and the left side wheel was buckled. Not enough to feel through the steering wheel but with his experience he was able to spot it.

Also, have spotted a small indentation on the boot, rear RS4 badge is on the wrong side (previous owner had it de-badged), small chip on left passenger side door and he has just put a set of cheapo tyres (Falkens) on it.

Other things that are putting me off are that it has no warranty as it expired in May.

Having spoken to some specialist dealers, they reckon that although it is a good spec and with 2 owners would be worth in the region of 29K trade, with the high number of owners (I'll be it's 7th!) it looks more like 24/25K.

The question is what is a fair price for the car given it's condition and history? The seller is asking for 31K but I am thinking of 30K if not less.

The main thing that is putting me off is the potential resale value of the car if I decided to sell it in a couple of years time. I am thinking 29K or I'll have to start looking for another RS4...

If they scrimped on the tyres it makes me wonder how much TLC it's had in it's recent history. 6 previous owners would imply no one wants to keep it long although it is (vaguely) possible that the car is gine and all 6 had other reasons to move on.

Have you HPI'd it and spoken to any previous owners that you can trace from receipts etc? If owner is serious about selling it he should be giving you al the info you need in doing your research.

On a 'Y' (is it 2001?) with a sunroof, OE Sat Nav and only 31,000m and paying sub £30k I would be happy to buy it IF it is possible to prove the owner history is as you say (and hang on to that proof for your eventual resale use).
