Re: Car Insurance Shock !!!!
Things get stored in garages above cars, and then fall out onto the car... so in a "safe" area there's more risk of a claim if the car is garaged than parked on the drive.Adam wrote:why cheaper on drive than garage? I can understand road cheaper than drive as thieves don't know which house to break into to nick keys, but hidden in a garage surely better than on drive?

Our insurance went up when I was able to garage my car so I queried this. I was given two reasons:PetrolDave wrote:Things get stored in garages above cars, and then fall out onto the car... so in a "safe" area there's more risk of a claim if the car is garaged than parked on the drive.Adam wrote:why cheaper on drive than garage? 1. Garaged cars are more attractive to thieves because, once they've broken into the garage, they can work on the car without worrying about being disturbed by passers-by.
2. Lots of people claim on their insurance for damage caused whilst putting their car away in the garage.

Mine is on a fleet policy, £1,026.78 fully comp with £250 excess and any driver over 30 years old.
Renew next month, fingers cross it won't go up too much.

Re: Car Insurance Shock !!!!
Mine's gone down, quite considerably.
October 2011:
RS4 (15,000 miles) was £1089 last year with Admiral, £1000 voluntary excess.
October 2012:
RS4 (13,000) and Ibiza (2,000) = £904! Roughly £600/£300 Admiral Multicar. Very pleased, and only £250 excess.
33yr, 0 points, 12 NCB, NE3 postcode (it's a high risk one)

Re: Car Insurance Shock !!!!
I have been messing about trying to sort insurance out changing from the 4 to the 6.
Was paying £350 for the 4 (33, 11year NCD IAM etc). Call IAM Surety up to swap over and turns out their underwriters want a tracker fitted to all cars with a value over £30k! That to me seems very low. They went to a different underwriter (RSA) and gave me a quote of £1k+! I had done my homework and found Admiral for £380. So said thanks by see ya. 5 minutes later they phoned up and said they would match it! From £1k+ to £380 - makes no sense to me whatsoever. How??
Of course i took it

Me personally I would have told them to stick it. If they are willing to try and mug you off for a grand and then change their mind because they know they are being greedy I would have thrown it back in their face.scottie1979 wrote: 5 minutes later they phoned up and said they would match it! Seems to be no rules to these companies and they can do what they like.
