Is that because they keep zooming past you? *snigger*

I'm with ya.

What about Supercharging though? Depending on turbo spool characteristics the differences can be reduced/levelled to an extent, but supercharger pull in general is far quicker. I know you probably know far more about this anyway but just saying. Although it was a hulking beast, I loved how the Eaton SC on my old XJR with a modified pulley applied the power.

Hope you get your Clio sorted Sonny. Fixing shouldn't be a problem and such a common track weapon. Rebore/rehone(overbore!), forged pistons/rods all balanced with the crank/FW/clutch would be nice, although I'm sure complete engines can be had for not much.

One thing you really need to know is what happened to the rings though. Excessive wear due to mileage, det, poor oil retention etc.. Specialists should tell you this though, part and parcel of the rebuild process.

Thanks nobby, mileage is 63k.

I did look into getting a second hand bottom end as these can be had for peanuts, but it will always be in my mind if the same problem will happen again.

Im actually looking at getting new pistons and rings and poss a mild rebuild, however price will the biggest factor.

Im speaking to ktec and mark fish at the moment, will get some other quote as well. First thing first will be a leak down test to see what the actual problem is.
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar

Apples and Oranges but for what it is worth, my STI5 had a chocolate piston moment at around 45k miles and as a result, I ended up having the internals bored out to about 2.23l I think and had Omega Pistons stock in along with uprated rods, ARP head bolts etc etc.

It was always in my mind to an extent but I took that block up to 492/473, drove it like the Dukes Of Hazzard on a daily basis and it didn't miss a beat over the 3 years that I owned her, putting another 20k on the clock if memory serves. From what I have heard, the engine is still going strong today.

I reckon that if that car is that much fun around tracks and you can see yourself sticking with it for a good while, why not treat yourself, funds permitting of course.

Dry sump is the way to track a turbo safely, its the oil surge starving your turbo which kills it

Or baffle your sump if you want it on the cheap
