Opinions on spec'ing new car

Post by Chris G » Wed Oct 17, 2012 7:23 pm

Hi Guys,

I'm pretty close to finalising the spec for my RS4 order. I realise a car spec is a very personal choice however here's a couple of options which I'm thinking about and would appreciate the opinions of others!

I'm waiting for the dealer to come back to me with this one but can the 5 spoke rotor wheels be changed for the V-spokes as part of the sport package?

Is the HDD based Nav worth going for over the standard system?

Bucket seat option - I feel they're in-keeping with the car but is it worth the £2k? For info I like the idea of the convenience package memory function as well as the thought of the buckets.

Any opinions appreciated.
Chris

Different answers from different dealers on the wheel choice

Mine has managed to exchange 5 spoke for V spoke within sport pack option

HDD nav includes 7 digit post code entry and google maps so I think worth it for that. I've got it as part of tech pack

I've not gone buckets because of price, memory function and the fact I had them on a loan RS5 for a week and found getting in and out of hard shoulders painful! I'm told super sports are very good still

If you don't go for buckets you will get the super sport seats that I have on my S4 which are really great and add a great feel to the interior. Having sat in the buckets last week it does make the car feel that bit more special than what I have and they are super tight. If you are a larger gentleman then they may not be so comfy. Also the sides had started to wear already on the demo RS4 at Combe.

For me, if I could afford them I would definitely get them.

I had buckets on my B7 and wouldn't bother again personally. They reduce rear legroom, they're a pain to get out of and the bolsters wear. They are very supportive and great to sit in, but the downsides (especially rear space) are not worth it for me. I am thinking of another RS4 when my Discovery goes in 18 months time, for me it would be sports and tech pack with the V spokes and black optics, I would also go for the uprated MMI. My only gripe is that they're not offering Mugello, alongside Nogaro it is 'the' RS colour, but there's no way I would fork out the extra for a non standard colour, so it will either be Daytona or Sepang. Shame.

Thanks for all the replies.

I placed my order earlier today. Spec is:
Sepang blue
Standard S sports seats with convenience package
Sport package with 20" Titanium coloured Rotors*
Audi hill-hold assist
Heated front seats
Door mirrors – electrically folding and auto dimming with memory function (part of convenience pack)
Power-operated tailgate
Privacy glass
Sound package - B&O & DAB
Storage package

* Interestingly I asked about swapping the 20" Rotors for the V-spokes as part of the sport pack and I was told it wasn't possible via Audi UK. Mr535dBoy, you've been lucky!

Looking forward to it coming in March or April next year, hopefully it wont slip too far from there!

Agreed and I would push for the V spokes, they're what would distinguish the RS for me, as nice as Rotors are. I don't think 535boy has been 'lucky', he's just dropped on a dealer (or has pushed them) that is prepared to push Audi.

IMO the HDD nav is well worth the extra for the relatively small amount of ££s.

I've upgraded the RNSe in my B7 to the latest spec 2010+ unit, so am used to that as a standard; I recently had a 2012 B8 loan car with the basic DVD based nav, and it was a step backwards - it didn't even do a 3D birds eye view, and the display was a fairly basic resolution. I've also tried the current HDD in a 2012 S4 and it was a clear step forwards - lovely high resolution screen and loads more functionality.

Unless of course the DVD based system in the B8 RS4 is different to the rest of the range, but I understand that it's the same kit?

Hassle them for the V spokes. Rotors come on every Audi now. I saw them last weekend and they look the business.

I did push and they agreed to do it for me

It is on both written order and screen dump from their screen as no charge

Who knows.

You don't seem 100% confident, surely if you have it in writing they will have to supply the wheels? I have noticed that the configurator allows you to select the sport pack and the V spokes, not that it means much.

Given the comments about the steering, i wonder how the car would drive without DRC and Dynamic steering?
