Hello All, just a quickie, came across this web address one day whilst browsing for S4 information. Step by step guide on how to change over your unreliable Bosch MAF, for the later Hitachi one.

The guide does say 'if requested' about the chip which implies that it's not mandatory. Since the guide also mentions fine tuning of 'drivability' issues, maybe that's what the new chip is for. So perhaps the Hitachi MAF can be used in place of the Bosch one without without a software upgrade, and reliability will be improved.

Mine has Hitachi written on it, which I can see just by inspection (with engine cover off). I think that Hitachi was only fitted to very late models.

The voltage transfer functions for the two sensors is completely different. You absolutely need different software. For US spec, it's A box to M box conversion.

Is this an ECU swap(plus the above change for the MAF) or does it require a rewire?
