To track or not to track

Going to a track day with some friends this weekend.

I still haven't bought a trackday car, but I am tempted to take the '6 on the track to see what's what.

Couple of things are putting me off:

1. Lots of twisties, hardly any straights so I will be shown up by Clio RS and assimilated.
2. Brake, tyre wear.

Um, ah, um, ah...

Maybe I'll just do a couple of sessions...

Do it, my plus was a lot better around the ring then I expected it to be and I had a lot of fun.

Worth doing a few laps. You won't be able to do too many unless you have upgraded high temp fluid and race pads as your brakes will fade, but you don't wanna do more than a few laps or you'll lunch yer tyres!

Clio Sports are incredibly quick on track if it's a twisty circuit. Weight is everything!

Go for it and have fun, just don't take it too seriously.

The '6 is a great car, but imo it has noting on a racetrack to do, as it is way too heavy.
As adviced i a previous post, buy an Elise/Exige and have real fun not worrying of shredded tires and boiling/fading brakes.

It's certainly a good laugh, but I'm not so sure our motors are really suited to the track.

When I went to Oulton, which is pretty twisty, I was pwned by pretty much everything due to the inadequate brakes. After a couple of laps engine braking was as about as effective as my actual brakes.

If you go, make sure your cool down lap actually is just that, it's tempting to hammer it a bit anyhow.. I did this and it led to my brake fluid boiling when I stopped, cutting short my day.

If you can get hold of some racing compound brake pads in time it might help, so would high temp brake fluid.

Not me, I would take the Cupra R every time. Lighter, way cheaper to fix and I care about it far, far less. Still debating buying another to strip it to a shell and see just how mental it can be made as a track car. I feel bad about how I spank my 6 on the road, let alone on a track.

Grizz said his C6 OEM brakes did not fade at all on track. Mine don't on normal spirited driving whereas the C5 ones would.

I wouldn't. Watched one at Knockhill a few weeks ago (Chorlton) and whilst it is quick and sounds awesome, it just looks out of place. He was either having to manage understeer or manage his brakes. I was sweating just following him.

Much more fun in something light and cheap to repair. I have a mk2 golf for this, but you could pick up a clio fully track prepared for £2k, which is nearly the price of the disc/pads/tyres you are going to shag tracking the 6.

Definitely give it a go. It's not a track car but if you've got the chance to do a few laps you should go. See what it's like.

TBF there are always cars that are quicker so i wouldn't worry about that. When i took the e36 i went past cars quicker than mine but also got embarrassed by some of modified Clios (it was a Renault day) lol.

thought of doing it, went to the track and ended up doing a few laps using a Formula3000 car...way much better than with the Beast, i am sure the RS would be a nice experience on a fast circuit, but on a twisty one you will just feel its weight and wear out the tires and brakes, and they don't come cheap ! I have decided to buy a Clio RS 182 for the track days, much more fun and a lot cheaper to fix and i could push it to the limits without having to worry about a crash or a mechanical failure, if it can be fixed ok, if not i'll scrap it! The money i would use to replace the brakes and tires would almost cover the money to buy the Clio !

However, a few easy laps with the Beast wouldn't hurt!
