I think C6 had a mild mid-term facelift to improve this which the C6 RS6 probably got.

Good news is I let it idle for a bit while washing it and the gauge went up a bit and range went to 25 miles which is bit more palletable!

Mik15 you are correct, in auto mode it will shift down a gear before kick down if you are trying to accelerate briskly but not WOT
In manual mode it wont shift down until you go WOT and hit kickdown
I love mine .................but fuel consumption isnt good 19.5 on a good day but on a bad day i get 3.5!
Would i part with my c5 erm not a chance in hell :bigblink:
950 nm torque!

You can't go WOT without kickdown. The kickdown signal is sent when the accelerator position is at 85% or higher. Either your TCU is modified and it ignores the kickdown signal in tiptro or you have a standard TCU and if it's not kicking down then you are not requesting maximum power from the engine or the revs are too high to kickdown.
Mine does exactly what it should do then - kickdown available in any mode - which is annoying!
It's great if you want to guarantee you out drag anything on the autobahn but why do you really need to kickdown at 80mph when there is so much go in top gear anyway in this car in the UK?

It's extremely irritating. By the time the box has worked out what gear it wants to be in, whatever you wanted to own has owned you.

Not as an AVG MPG unless you set it to zero just as you are getting on to the ring, some other track or a private runway and give her a proper raping. As an instant MPG that is a different story.

Foot to the floor with MPG on instant it only does 5 MPG, so 3.5 MPG? Rule one.

If you decide to keep it, a TCU map/remap should be high on your list of priorities if you want to "correct" the gearbox behaviour.

Shoppinit wrote: You need to get the TCU modified to stop it kicking down in tiptro. That used to drive me insane. It's soooooooooo much better now. Also it doesn't unlock the TC as soon as you lift off like the OE TCU does so you get much more engine braking and a more "manual" experience.
You mean while in D Shop? I'm sure in S and Tip they lock the TC with my map. Can't remember what the OEM does. I need to map out this kickdown in Tip too.

Sorry, I don't understand. Don't you already have a modified TCU?

Yeah I had one fitted to change the shift points only. Does yours stay locked in Drive when you lift off?

No, in drive it works just like the OE one. Slush city.

Are we def sure the kickdown in manual mode
can't be deleted with Vag Com?

I have a very distant memory of being able to choose a comfort or otherwise transmission map on some other VAG auto

I've got a TCU map from Grizz and mine STILL does kick down from 5th in manual mode…

It's one thing I really wish I could sort - all of the newer Audis I get as company cars have more moderns software / S-tronic etc… so it would be good to sort it. Do I have a bad TCU map?
