You can rant all you like, but if the Golf MKVII allows VAG to design and manufacture cars such as the RS4, RS6, R8, Gallardo, Murcielago, Aventador, Veryon and the like then I would find the Golf totally acceptable.

I hardly think that VAG HQ are quaking in their boots at our deliberations?

Not forgetting that the headline thread is "General Car Chat"
with the exception the veyron i suspect audi make a nice profit on all of their cars, halo cars also help shift s line models

as i said they will sell the golf by the bucket load, image, badge, CO2 and the "latest tech" are what most people want they do not care about how it drives (most of them will be doing 38 in a NSL) and the GTi will sell in big numbers even thou it is underpowered compared to the competition (VXR/ST/CUP etc) and with a few extras the current car can retail for 35k!

still doesn't stop me light heartedly pulling the leg of all the fanbois now does it :FIREdevil:

"There is no getting away from the fact the Golf is a recipe that works and Volkswagen would be bonkers to change it. The 29 million they’ve sold since it was launched in 1974 proves this."

Talk your way out of that particular blind alley then Dave_Hedgehog

Tell me how many manufacturers adhere to the RWD formula for small family hatchbacks?

You're not honestly telling me that a RWD Morris Ital of 1980-84 vintage is a better car than any Golf MK1 - are you.....?.....nah,,,,you're not are you.......?

The Golf MK1 was a landmark car.

Lightweight.....GTi.......Diesel........
