The R01 is the Audi homologation marking. I have heard reports that non-R01 PS2 can rub on ole knobbly.

Go give 'em hell, Doc.

LOL, the problem for audi is that they know that I know very little about the internal machinations of my car but that on the flip side being of a scientific mind, i will tend to ask questions and seek evidence and or information.

They werent banking on my membership of an extremely informative owners club or that the oracle himself is a regular poster on the forum

As for giving them hell, i`ll more then likely give them my cash card and leave with my wallet a lot lighter but that`ll probably be the last time i do so.

I`m not sure whether its a national idea or just local but at soton audi you have to rate your "experience" using an ipad. I might have some fun.

The only thing that`ll learn em is not returning. I think changing a tyre shouldnt be beyond them...i hope :audibash:

I can empathise with Audi dealers, just a bit. I used to get fed up of know-it-all customers sometimes, they've researched, lets say for example,a hotel. They've done this 24/7, forums, tripadvisor, their friends have been there and they know everything about it. To me, it is just a job, we have a thousand hotels in our portfoloio and I couldn't possibly know everything about each one off the top of my head - I want to get rid of you and go home asap.

Agreed, the know it all customer/patient isnt a popular one. A distinction has to be drawn though between the know-it-all customer whose intention it is to "catch you out" and someone who has prepared themselves. In medicine we have google medics popping up in outpatient clinics every day, the role of the physician/surgeon is within a consultatory capacity as would the dealer of a particular make of vehicle when an individual brings that particular make to them to diagnose and fix . They are coming to YOU because they see YOU as the expert and want your advice.

It is identical in any other walk of life. You have a problem and you see the team/individual or company that specialises in managing that problem. There is an expectation and an assumption on their( consumer or patient) part that the information you give them is accurate. Your heart may sink at the sheer amount of printed material theyve brought with them but that should never lead you to misinform them. You might not ever know everything about everything ( who does) , but you can at least ensure that from a basic level of professional courtesy to the paying customer or patient that the information you give them is accurate. My patients trust me to advise them. If they have the capacity, it is then in their hands to make a decision. Yes they have printed things off that Ive never heard of but they respect honesty and can soon see if someones "swinging the lead"

There is an element of implied trust by me leaving my vehicle with Audi. I expect them to know more about my car then me as I am paying them to fix problems for me. I dont expect them to know everything and crucially I dont expect what happened today. It could be an honest mistake and thats why I`m willing to leave my car with them. I wont be able to comment on the aptitude of the engineers as I wont have the time or inclination or ability to study their work, however, I will be able to comment on their customer service( includes updates on faults etc) and thats where reputations are won and lost and ultimately future business especially if the customer gets the impression that the expert isnt that.

In any case I need to go see a man about some hotels... :biggrin3:

I didn't know walk-in travel agents still existed.

Well said, Doc. What's worrying in this case is that the TPMS is far from being an RS6 specific item. It is on a shed load of Audi cars. Not just Audi cars, but multitudes of cars of all brands. The metal valves should have been a dead give-away.

Doc, get the Vagcom on your car and tell us what it says. I'm not sure how to reactive TPMS. I guess it's the reverse of deactivating it. Now, who's done that?

I don't work in a walk in travel agent, but the HQ for a travel company, and when we lost a major contract I offered to help speak to customers a few times. But yes, they exist, we have over 800 shops in the UK, and I speak to their managers near daily. Even the travel agents book their holidays online.

The plot thickens..i have tpms valves sensors and antennae but a loom where the control unit should be. I have asked for a quote on a new control unit. Sod it, lost the will, too many people are coding the tpms out for me to insist on spending the best part of another 1k getting it to work, much rather get some billies or something. :audibash:

Just code the whole system out, waste of time and money trying to get it working.
When I had a puncture on the BMW with runflats, I could well feel it before the system warned me. With non-runflats you will certainly feel the flat tyre.

Well picked her up today, 4 lovely spanking new ps2`s and yes they were r01 `s andd although there was enough wax on the alloys to create a replica of myself for madame tussauds, i wasnt expecting the damage to the powder coat which audi have agreed to refurb free of charge( 3 of them had bits that had flaked off)

In any case, the car glues to the road, i wasnt really expecting at the top end of the tyre market to notice a difference thinking they are all much of a muchness but I spose when it comes to these sorts of things, that just exemplifies my ignorance..

As for the TPMS module, audi wanted about £450 for the module and a couple of hrs labour to recode it all in.

Have got the part number from them and told them I`m going to try myself at some point in the future, read it will sit in a box in the garage for a few months.
