The bullshit that Audi manage to come up with never ceases to amaze me.

Wrong. They all have them.
cfcdoc wrote: allegedly doesnt have it and cant be added as a retrospective option and that explains the lack of alert.
Wrong. If the above wasn't wrong then this would be wrong, too.

cfcdoc wrote: has run flat sensors which allegedly work on rotation so assuming the short distance it was manouevered didnt set sensors off. In any case ordered 4 new ps2 at not too unreasonable price according to a brief google search..
This is just pricelessly, artisticly and entirely wrong. Run flat sensors? That work on rotation? Instead of TPMS? What has this guy been smoking?

Did he also say you needed a new particulate filter and dual mass flywheel?

According to Footlongs documents the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System was standard on the RS6.

Yes it does. On cars that could possibly have them. You can see where I'm going with this...

I am trying to think of statement that would be so enormously wrong in an equivalent way in the medical world, but I haven't seen House recently. Something along the lines of "you left arm hurts and you are short of breath because no doubt an elephant has recently been sitting on your chest". I'm sure you could supply a much more entertaining version.

to be honest the service tech who called me was trying desperately to explain how because it sits on the auspension arm and not the valve it cant be tpms..he got flustered when i challenged him. i would be willing to take it elsewhere when tyres changed. i suppose it could be conceivable that prev owner ripped them out but surely there should be some remnants so that all i do is instal new sensors

OK. If you've got metal valve stems then you have the TPMS installed. In each arch there is an antenna to receive radio emissions from the sensors which hang off the valve stems inside the wheel. You won't see the antenna.

If your TPMS is not working and you are not periodically getting the symbol on the DIS telling you that they are turned off, then they have been coded out.

First thing to do is turn the system back on and see what needs replacing. I am guessing that you will need all new valves and TPMS. The batteries only last about 4-5 years.

Now, doc, have you got a vagcom?

Cheers gents but I have Vagcom, i was hoping i could trust the vehicle with soton audi but it appears they are soon to join ( by their own doing) the long line of dealers to avoid. I wanted the tpms replaced whilst wheels were off but to be honest i dont trust them now so I spose the wheels (new sp2 will hopefully be fitted the right way) will have to come off again so someone that knows what they are doing gets to do just that.... :audibash:

Frustrating.

Were you really going to pay Audi prices for TPMS sensors?

I have just spoken to him again and asked that the wheels be fitted and then I will pick up the car and have the tpms seen to myself. The response " i have just checked with the engineer and your car does have tyre pressure system sir. There are 2 types, highline and run flat" The engineer states there is no tpms control unit and no light on the DIS. They want to fit the tyres, underinflate and road test. I suggested coming over with my own laptop and vagcom and coding back in the tpms.

shop i didnt want to have to pay labour twice so thought I would trust audi with it....... :audibash:

Amar enlighten me, are there different spec PS2`s, ive got 255 35 ZR19

Audi will definitely order the R01 or they will cross the line from useless to dangerous.
